Ryan Kennedy is the definition of tall, dark and handsome and along with his success, he seems to have it all. However, Ryan is a man haunted by the past. The time has now come for him to face all that happened before and to finally try and put the past to rest.
After eleven long years he has returned home to the wild beauty of the West of Ireland coastline, to a place that formed him in so many unimaginable ways. He must reach out to those who hurt him the most and lay his heart on the line but these were the people who destroyed him before and will seeing them again prove his salvation or his ultimate undoing.
As much M/M Romance and Gay Fiction as I read and review, it is only rarely that I will come across a title that leaves me absolutely speechless. Over Your Dead Body by Roison Black is just such a title.
OYDB takes place at a graveside in Ireland. Years after Ryan, our main character, was thrown from his parent’s home in violence and hate for the sin of loving a men, he returns to offer forgiveness to his parents. Throughout the conversation we come to know Ryan and the struggle he endured to get where he is today. To get to a place where he can forgive his parents for their actions and impact on his life.
Our story is told in first person vignettes as Ryan looks back over his life. We watch him struggle with who he is and who he is expected to be. We see him break himself and his heart over and over trying to be something he isn’t. We see him take control of his life and his sexuality. We see him find and lose love over the years. We see him finally happy and content.
This story will make you think. It will make your heart hurt. It might even make you shed a few tears. In the end, however, you will be happier for having read it.
I would like to thank the author for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
