Jerome and Greg played on the dirt road halfway between their homes when they were kids, and found much better games to play there when they grew older. It’s their special spot, the perfect place for Greg to propose, and the worst place possible for the accident that takes his life.
Devastated by the loss, Jerome visits that lonely road on the anniversary of Greg’s death, only to discover that not all endings are permanent.
I was torn about how to rate this one because while it was written well, I thought it was sad and would even hesitate to call it a romance. I try not to judge a story based on how I think it could’ve been improved so I made my ultimate decision based on the skill of the author.
Jerome and Greg have been together since they were young and even have their own special spot between the two houses where they grew up. Unfortunately it’s also the spot where a car accident claims Greg’s life.
A year later something magical happens and for one night Jerome and Greg can spend time together. And this happens annually for years and years…and years. And here’s where I had an issue.
As sweet and romantic Jerome and Greg’s time together is, what happens to Jerome for the other 364 days of the year? There’s a life he’s not living just so he can be there with Greg for one night. I thought it was sad, even the ending which has the men together for the rest of eternity.
I suppose these men were soulmates but was it fair to Jerome to not really live the majority of his life?
It’s to the author’s credit that I was torn about this story. I loved these guys and wanted them to be happy, I just didn’t wish Jerome could’ve had his happily ever after in life instead of in the ever after.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
