Ferris Stuart has two missions to accomplish while on vacation on Oahu: research for a new Hawaiian Islands themed hotel and have a little fun, something he hasn’t had much of since his partner died two years ago. So far he’s managed to halfheartedly accomplish the first task; however, he’s failing miserably at the second. That is, until a charming islander shows him both the locale and how to start living again.
Summer Boys is an example of an excellent short story that hits every beat it should. I absolutely loved the characters and liked seeing a Hawaiian character. We don’t see native islanders all that often in m/m, despite them being oh so very sexy.
Ferris is in Oahu on business but he finds more pleasure than he expected. Ferris notices Miko, described as huge and a bronze god, watches him perform a flawless jump and is invited to watch him at a luau. Ferris hasn’t moved on since the death of his lover two years prior, so he is hesitant when Miko hits on him.
Regardless, the men hang out together. The bond and connection between these two characters was instant and obvious. I wanted them together right away and was so frustrated by Ferris’s reticence. But when they finally get together. Damn, hot.
Winters did an excellent job with this short story and created original characters that I absolutely loved.
And the ending! Oh my god. So perfect.
