The Release Series: Book Two

Just released from the military, wounded warrior Eric Tremaine is trying to put his life back together like the doctors reassembled his shattered leg. He’s a man with no home, since his Louisiana family rejected him, so Eric winds up in Texas with his old Army buddy, Adam Winchester, and his lover, Sage.

When Eric decides to stop sitting on his ass feeling sorry for himself, he is introduced to trainer Troy Daniels, who lost both his legs in a teenage accident. Troy knows what it’s like to feel as if your body is your enemy. While Eric and Troy have a bumpy start, they soon find enough common ground to make a friendship, if not more. But taking it to the next level means finding out what they have to offer each other, and the world, before they can trust that the love they find together won’t cause more pain than pleasure.

My View:

This was a very comfortable and fun read. Even with the injuries and healing, this overall story reminded me of a good comfort read. There was great characterization, great story, and just enough emotion to pull me in and keep me connected. I fell in love with both main characters, though at times Troy touched a few of my nerves. I loved seeing Sage and Adam again and knowing that they are still so much in love and not afraid to show it.

I enjoyed getting to know Eric and Troy and everything that came with them. I loved that they were so human together. They were not these alpha male types that stories with military and muscle men tend towards. They were relatable. And I love that their sex life was not all perfection and heat. I loved that they laughed together and jokes around while in bed. It had a wonderful feel to it that made this story so much better.

My biggest issue was the conversational language employed. These men spoke as if they were teeneagers, surfers, rockstars, or potheads. They continually used phrases, like “cool” and “rock on” and “cool beans” and “nappage.” Their word choices did not fit their age group nor their personality types. It started out OK, but got progressively worse as the story moved forward. I do not know any adult males from Texas who speak that way. I apologize if that speech pattern is legit and there are cowboys out there who are in fact internal rockstars, surfers, potheads. But in my experience, the language was off base and annoying.
