It’s no surprise Riley Connors is dealing with issues. He was kidnapped as a young boy, and his parents abandoned him after his newsworthy return. He bounced from foster home to facility and back. Now an adult, ghosts from his past continue to haunt him. After a suicide attempt, he is locked away in Hartfield so that people can make him tune in to emotions he has tried to bury.

Hunter Morgan had the kind of love that spans ages. But the stress of college and adulthood became too much to handle, and the love of Hunter’s life turned to drugs. After he overdoses, Hunter finds himself soaring out of control on the same miserable path. His brother finds him and calls an ambulance, and the sister Hunter would rather not have calls it a suicide attempt, landing Hunter in Hartfield.

Finding love isn’t easy, but it can happen under the most dire circumstances. Together Hunter and Riley may be able to grow from their pain. But they will need to learn to live for themselves, letting love come second.

Story Review:

I have to be quite honest, this book was just not for me. Maybe it was that I was already annoyed with the narrator, but I never formed a connection to either MC so I never formed a desire to follow their story to completion. As such, I am going to defer the story review to Lirtle who reviewed the ebook version. Her review can be read here.

Narration Review:

Please hang with me here as I rant a tiny bit. If you are going to narrate a book, please take the time to learn the CORRECT pronunciation of major cities and landmarks. In this particular case, the narrator seemed to be extremely unlucky in the fact that I am a Louisiana native and have family living in each city mentioned in this story. I am also a native of New Orleans and as such am extremely proud of my heritage and the fact that we are unique in the way that we pronounce things. So maybe I am making a bigger deal out of this than need be, but when the opening chapter has two major cities mispronounced and then the major lake near New Orleans is butchered with some “accent” that I can’t define, I get annoyed. And once I am annoyed, all the good falls away. I thought that the narrator did a good job as far as the characters and story were concerned, but that wasn’t enough to pull me back out of my annoyance. He did not take the time to google the cities for correct pronunciation which in my mind is disrespectful and lazy. I looked the names up just to be sure I wasn’t making this out to be something it wasn’t and I found the correct pronunciations on the first page I opened. They were NOT the pronunciations employed by the narrator. If you can’t take the time to do something right, just don’t do it at all. Maybe people who have no clue of the correct pronunciation won’t care, but I care and because I care, this narration was a flop and ruined any chance I had at enjoying this story.
