From a gothic tale of love to a story of terrifying secrets and twisted obsession, Buried Desires is a pairing of fun and fright by two new names in gay horror.

Cold Fingers – a love story by Amy Spector

Christopher Minnick is at a bad place in his life. Turning thirty and newly out of the hospital, the last thing he wants to do is attend a birthday dinner even if it is being thrown in his honor.

When he is introduced to a friend’s godson things just might be starting to look up. Or are they?

All the good ones are either married or straight. Or they’re necrophiliacs.

Deadly Sugar – you can never be too thin
by Ofelia Gränd

After six years of a relationship going nowhere, Jett has moved away to start over. Maybe his new neighbour David can help distract him from the ache left by his ex’s absence.

David on the other hand has a whole root cellar full of lovers. He doesn’t need another one. And no matter what treats Jett offers, David knows nothing tastes as good as thin feels.

My View:

If you love freaky horror stories that leave you guessing until the end then you have to read these stories. I absolutely loved both tales in this collection.

Deadly Sugar features Jett and David. Jett is working on getting over an ex-lover while David has more lovers than he can handle. However, David’s lovers are captives he keeps in the basement. He likes his men extremely thin, so thin that he gives his captives just enough nutrition to keep them alive.

Jett is a baker. He makes things like cupcakes that Jett sees as totally evil. At first Jett sees David as just a nuisance, but then he decides he should rescue Jett from his sinful life and add him to David’s collection of lovers in the basement. I can’t give away the ending but it totally shocked me. In fact it reminds me of Richard Laymon, a classic horror writer.

There are mentions of David’s torture of his captives and having sex with them but the descriptions are not graphic in anyway at all.

Cold Fingers features Christopher and the much younger Vic. Christopher is dealing with some shit from his past, including the death of his twin brother and a hospital stay. He is drawn to Vic but he has a couple concerns beyond just their age difference.

First there is the fact that Vic seems to be drawn to men who he wants to rescue. Secondly, there is the fact that Vic could be a necrophiliac. Yup, Christopher thinks his lover would have a thing for corpses.

Again, I can’t spoil the ending but it was one that knocked my socks off.

Kudos to both authors for crafting well-written and engaging scary stories. I will be looking for more from these ladies.
