For this week, we are doing something a little different here at Prism Book Alliance®. We are taking part in the Foster and Author program organized by the great ladies over at Jo and Isa Love Books. Our assigned author is Nic Starr, who we have reviewed here a number of times on Prism Book Alliance®. Most recently Brandilyn reviewed her Heroes series — Charlie’s Hero and Andrew’s Promise.
Hi again, Nic Starr here. Are you getting sick of me yet? wink
When I write it’s usually in silence, or my own special version of silence. But every now and then, a change is good and I listen to some music. So I thought I’d share a bit of what I listen to.
Firstly, I should point out that my house is often noisy. With two teenage girls, the house is regularly full of kids, with the TV, Playstation, or iPods blasting. So when I say ‘silence’, it’s a bit of a stretch. ☺ Unless I’m writing in the middle of the day when everyone else is out of the house, I have to have a way of drowning out the day-to-day noises. The solution is rain.
One day I read a blog post that extolled the virtues of listening to the sound of rainfall. And it was right. The gentle sound of raindrops falling is soothing and blocks everything else out. A bit like white noise. Headphones on, hit play, and I’m in the zone.
What do you think? Do you like the sound or think I’m mad?
When I’m not listening to rain, I usually choose music that is relatively easy-listening, otherwise it pulls me out of my story. Unless of course I pick songs that specifically suit the story I’m writing. For example, in Charlie’s Hero, when Charlie and Josh, went out to dinner at the Italian restaurant, That’s Amore by Dean Martin was playing. While I wrote that scene, I was listening to a best of list of songs from Italian restaurants that helped put me in the mood. “When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that’s amore.” Have you got that stuck in your head now? Don’t you just hate an ear-worm? LOL
Here’s a few of the songs I’m listening to at the moment.
- Catch & Release (Deepend Remix) by Matt Simon
- Start Again by Conrad Sewell
- Sweet Disaster by Whitehorse
- Hands of Love by Miley Cyrus
- Shine By Years & Years
- Stole the Show By Kygo (and I love the Kygo remix of Sexual Healing)
By the way, every Monday I do a music post on my blog. In line with the theme of my writing, the artist is usually gay or the song has a same love theme.
