Upon resuming a career 90 miles away from home in August, my attention, time, and energy have been almost exclusively devoted to my “RL” responsibilities. I have been exhausted, trying to adjust to this new schedule and to being so far from home on a daily basis. However, when GRL time came around, I suddenly had time and permission to just be…and to spend an extraordinary 5 days with some of my favorite people on the entire planet. Though I was quieter on the blog and other social media this year than I was last, I enjoyed myself immensely and am incredibly grateful that Lirtle (Andrea) was able to keep everyone updated on our daily shenanigans.
I have said it before, and I will say it again. The GRL community is more than that. It is family. I have made some of the most beautiful friendships through the m/m romance network, and when I have the opportunity to meet and interact with these wonderful people face to face, it’s like magic happens. This was my second year attending, and I can only say that it was even richer and more vibrant that last year. I saw so many familiar faces and reunited with dear friends I made during my previous GRL adventure.
An additional treat at GRL was the opportunity to connect with authors new to me and to re-connect with established favorites. Each and every one of them–there are too many to name here–were extremely generous and gracious with their time and talent. I adore them and cannot thank them enough for all they contribute to the genre.
Celebrations of friendships, old and new, were in abundance as we gathered in large groups and small to share our passion for m/m romance and our love for each other. Nowhere else have I found such acceptance for who I am and what I love to read and share with others.
The best thing about GRL, however? Seeing Brandilyn, PizzyGirl, Lirtle, and Paisley once again and meeting Caroline for the first time! I simply adore these wonderful ladies and am constantly amazed at how well we just “click” and have become like family to one another.
Andrea, I can’t thank you enough for enduring late nights, early mornings, and frantic flights to join me on a road trip through the drought-ridden land that is my home state. Ermahgerd, I’m so over it! LOL
Brandilyn, thank you for all you do for us, the blog, and the genre. You constantly floor me with how much you accomplish. Big hugs, and yes, I am going to read the Hat Trick trilogy right away! 😉
Paisley, you are the hostess with the mostest, and I loved hanging out with you, as always. You are a ray of sunshine, my dear!
Katie, you’re my sweet girl who does so much for so many. You are appreciated more than you know.
Caroline, oh, my freakin’ God, I can’t believe we’ve finally met at last! Your energy, sense of humor, and loving spirit are infectious. The Isle of Man must have missed you terribly while you were here with us.
I love you all and will be a #krakenbitch forever!
Whether you were able to attend GRL or not, thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading the blog, and may you all continue to enjoy good health, happiness, and more books than your shelves can handle.
See you in Kansas City next year…
Love and hugs to all!
Much Love and see you Tomorrow!
