Book six in the Southern Spirits series
Severo and Laine thought they had it all. They had great friends, each other—and the spirits of McKinton, TX.
Until Sev gets a call from his sister asking to visit. He’s been the family pariah for most of his life. This sudden offering is something Sev had never even dared to hope for. Laine is suspicious but supportive. Then their world is altered when all the spirits in McKinton vanish on the same day.
Missing spirits, a coven of Wiccans, and a sister and her family all hit McKinton at the same time. Laine doesn’t know who has stolen the spirits, but he’s going to find out.
Was it the well-meaning Wiccans? Or is there something more sinister at work in McKinton?
Although this book concentrates mainly on Sev and Laine it also pulls all the characters together from the previous books as they try to solve the puzzle of their missing ghosts.
The ghosts are gone and nobody in McKinton has felt their presence in four days. It’s testament to how big a part these spirts play in their loved ones lives that it feels like they have lost their best friends. Sev is so worried he even goes to visit a hospital where instead of being overwhelmed by the voices he is greeted by complete silence.
When Sev’s sister arrives for a visit, something that has Sev shaken, Alma along with her family become the first suspects. Chris’s mum Miriam and her coven of Wiccan Witches are also in town so they also come under scrutiny but when it becomes clear neither of these groups are involved the community starts to feel a sense of panic. Either someone has stolen their ghosts or the ghosts have moved on and left of their own accord. Laine and Sev can’t believe that Connor would leave them but is that them just being selfish?
The answer soon becomes clear and it saddens Sev that people still see anything different or unusual as dangerous and a reason to hate. He feels the pain very personally but rather than dwell on it he goes all out to get his ghosts back, never before realising just what a big part of himself his abilities are.
A new family in town, some hot sex with Sev taking what he wants and a bit of normality when Connor and his friends are returned. It was good to catch up with the residents of McKinton.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
