Three weeks after the events in Altasia, nightmares come to plague Asher. His only defense against them seems to be José, but Asher is struggling with José’s determination to shoehorn them into a relationship. If he’s being honest, he isn’t quite sure what José hopes to get out of a relationship with him besides sex.
His problems don’t end there, though. Strange things begin to happen in Riverside. Suddenly the bond is back, José’s sister falls into a coma, and to top it all off, someone sets fire to Asher’s house–and it isn’t Asher.
Somehow, this world and the other one are related, and if Asher wants to keep shit from hitting the fan, he needs to figure out how. There’s no time to worry about love, but ignoring it might be his worst mistake ever.
This is a really difficult book to write about without giving too much away.
Burned follows on where Branded left off but the boys are back on earth and Altasia is just in their nightmares. The first big question is whether they will find each other again and if they do what then? Can they pick up where they left off on their crazy adventure or will everything have changed?
This story answers a lot of the questions the first book left us with as we see the link and the history between the two world and the people involved.
For me personally this story was very much about Asher. This aloof yet vulnerable young man with a fixation to fire has his life splayed open as Jose attempts to stop him running. His father’s return opens up old wounds that should have been faced years ago but which Asher has firmly locked away. He blossoms in this book but it’s ugly and painful for him and he fights it every step of the way.
We also meet Jose’s family when his sister becomes a part of the story helping Jose confirm that there is a link to what is happening and it’s not just random as he first thought.
Burned is nothing like Branded yet very much the same…does that make sense? Probably not! It carries on the story but the setting has changed, the goals have changed and Jose, aka The Blind Guy, is determined to get his HEA.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
