Tough in business but romantic at heart, fashion designer Lenny James isn’t hiding his masculinity behind his super successful female alter ego, but a vulnerability that only handsome financier Brook Hunter will be man enough to reveal…and worship.

It’s amazing what a little mascara and lipstick, a blonde wig, false boobs, and top-notch female fashion can hide. Not that Lenny James is hiding his masculinity. He uses his normal voice when he’s Laverne, and he’s not particularly camp as a man. His reasons for creating his alter ego are locked deep in his past. He is who he is: tough in business, and a romantic at heart. What he’s hiding is vulnerability. He wants a man to accept both sides of him.

Gorgeous, commanding, and dark as sin, Brook Hunter meets Lenny and knows nothing about Laverne until fate pushes her into his path. Cross-dressing is as far from Brook’s reality as fashion is from his world of diplomacy and high finance. Understanding and truth take time, and trust doesn’t come easy. But Brook is about to show Lenny that there are no sides to true love, just the place where they meet in the middle.

My View:

I am a big fan of the Men of London series and I am so pleased to see Lenny finally get his story. His large personality, his snarky attitude, his yearning for someone to love and of course Laverne had me very excited.

Lenny is a complicated character by virtue that he has two very distinct personas. Laverne is who we get through the day, she heads up the Debussy Brand, a fashion house well known for its suits. Laverne was created back in Lenny’s college days and is as much a part of the man as the colour of his eyes. When the working day is over you get Lenny in all his glory. He is compassionate, fun, a demanding lover and has a close knit group of friends but he lives with a dark cloud hanging over him where his family is concerned and woe betide anyone that criticises how he lives his life.

Lenny has silently watched his friends find their partners and settle down and he dreams about that kind of life for himself. The problem he has is finding a man that will accept all of him and that means accepting Laverne, until that happens he will carry on with one nights stands that leave him unfulfilled and put all his time and energy into building his business. Laverne and Leslie together are just pure magic together, the way they bounce off each other in the office every day had me laughing out loud more than once.

Brook Hunter works in the finance world and comes from a very different background to Lenny. They have been seeing each other and it was going well until a comment Brook makes has Lenny running for the door and ignoring phone calls and texts. Brook has no idea what he has done and Susan wrote the funniest chapter ever when it all becomes clear.

When they give their relationship another go it seems they are both walking on egg shells whilst trying not to hurt each other. Lenny is very protective of Laverne and until Brook realises that Lenny and Laverne are in fact one they don’t stand a chance but Brook is nothing but persistent and he has fallen hard for this crazy man including his boobs, wigs and high heels.
