Kinder Thane lost his life partner three years ago and ever since, has folded into himself. He doesn’t speak to friends and only sees his family once a year. Every year on the anniversary of Leland’s death, he spends his time with the ghost of his dead boyfriend.
When Jessie Riley moves in across the hall, it sends his entire existence into a flurry. Suddenly there’s life out there, happiness, the joy of the holidays, and it’s so shocking he almost doesn’t know what to do with it. It gets to be too much but before he can pull back inside and go back to the way he was, Leland has a final gift for him, one that changes everything.
This was a sweet, romantic story about a man finally deciding to start over years after the death of his love.
Kinder Thane hasn’t really been living for the past three years, when his boyfriend Leland died. One of the reasons is that Leland’s ghost is still in the apartment.
There’s a spark of attraction when Thane meets Jessie Riley, his new neighbor. Thane ignores the draw and rushes to spend more time with Leland’s ghost. However, a freak accident brings Thane and Jessie together and Thane is no longer able to avoid him. It doesn’t take long for the two men to bond and soon Thane realizes everything he’s been missing.
I loved Thane’s slow realization that he couldn’t keep on living like he was. What started off as a desire to give Jessie a decent Christmas turns into a relationship. The parallels between Jessie and Leland hit just the right note and weren’t over the top, though it could have been. The paranormal aspect of the story could have been cheesy or unrealistic but it wasn’t. It was surprisingly realistic, in fact.
Thane and Jessie’s relationship moved at exactly the right pace and when they finally hit the sheets it was absolutely explosive and extremely sexy.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
