Colin wants to spend the Christmas holiday with his family, but a blizzard settles in and his flight is cancelled. Unwilling to accept this, he strikes out on his own and crashes his car. Where he ends up might be better than where he was going, though.
Logan was content to wait out the blizzard and spend the holiday alone, but when a frozen-solid Colin ends up on his doorstep, he’s not going to turn him away. He takes him in and shows him Christmas spent with a stranger really doesn’t have to be awkward after all.
A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2015 Advent Calendar package “Sleigh Ride”.
Okay so here is the deal. This story has been done so many times; it would take something spectacular to make me love it. Sadly, A Trip to Remember by Meg Harding was not spectacular. It was just ‘okay’ at best. Though there were a few events that just left me shaking my head more than anything else.
First, there is the whole plane grounded thing. So he decided to drive instead? Seriously? Do I need to spell out my issues with this forced plotline? Then of course after the opening scene, the plane is barely mentioned again. Later, it is implied that he was going to be driving to see his family all along. What?
Putting aside the plot WTFery, I just never felt any connection to or between the characters. They went from strangers to boyfriends without passing go. There was no chemistry between them outside of the sex scenes. There was no reason for them to “give it a go” except that they were snowed in together.
Overall I just found the story to be choppy and unconvincing. If you like that thing, however, it is a sweet little tale of proximity creating the chemistry that would otherwise not be there.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
