As a paramedic, Ryan Bishop has responded to his fair share of bizarre situations. However, he’s not prepared when he meets Phillip, a local man who keeps popping up to save the day. Everyone lauds Phillip as a hero, but he prefers to stay in the background, going so far as to refuse medical treatment.
Ryan is intrigued, not only by Phillip’s unassuming manner, but also by his ability to be in the right place at the right time. Ryan wants some answers and maybe even a date. What he gets is an unexpected part in Phillip’s origin story.
I am not entirely sure what to make of An Ordinary Hero by Therese Woodson. Part of me found it enjoyable. However, more of me found it predictable.
I liked Ryan and Phillip. I liked that Phillip was coming to terms with his abilities and Ryan’s feelings at the same time. I appreciated that they made some missteps together and worked them out together. I enjoyed watching Ryan’s infatuation grow.
However, I managed to predict every single step of their relationship before it happened. I like it when I am turning pages waiting to see what happens next. I am not as much of a fan od turning that page and thinking, “of course XYZ happens.”
I think Phillip and Ryan’s story is worth hour or two it will take to read it, however. If for no other reason than nerdy Phillip and hot Ryan are so cute together.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
