After years of hard work and sacrifice, Kip Cooper’s dream of playing for the NHL is finally within reach. Soon he’ll be able to leave behind his farm team to taste fame, fortune and the respect that comes with being number one. So he’s not about to allow anyone or anything get in the way. But try telling that to his libido, because despite everything, he can’t keep his mind off his teammate, Sergei. Too bad Sergei is young and openly gay… and Kip isn’t. When a chance encounter leads to a night of passion, Kip realizes he has to make a choice: Sergei or his dreams.
I have been curious about Kip since book one so I was excited to see Cup Check was his story!
I liked the way this one started out. I could feel the crush Sergei had on Kip. I could feel the hurt he suffered at the hands of his parents. I could easily see Kip’s desire for Sergei at war with his need to stay in the closet.
But then things turned a bit soap opera-y for me when Sergei found Kip in the bathroom. Then things got melodramatic and rushed in a way that didn’t seem to fit with either guy. But at the same time I wanted to see how things turned out. I was still invested in these men getting together and finding their happy.
Once the soap opera passed, these men were good together. Just enough emotion to temper the power play and possessive caveman quality. Just enough detail of their crushes for one another to detract from the “insta” feel. I loved their love and felt satisfied at the end.
This series is shaping up to be one of those quick, comfort read series. Where you know you will get your happy without too much fuss. I am enjoying myself and looking forward to the next book.
P.S. eXtasy editing issues still apply.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
