And then they lived happily ever after…

Sometimes Joshua Stone thinks he’s died and gone to heaven. How else can he explain Michael’s love for him? And now they’re living together… in a real relationship. This is the stuff of fairy tales, a love like other people take for granted.

Sure, they have their moments, what couple doesn’t? But a small doubt lingers in Joshua’s heart. Can this really be true? Can a gorgeous man like Michael really love someone like Joshua—the guy with cerebral palsy, who’s helpless without his walker or his tricycle to get him around?

Michael senses Joshua’s worries, but there’s nothing he can do to dispel them because that would mean revealing his secret—and he’s not ready for that. Their mutual secrets hang between them like time bombs waiting to explode. They might not survive the inevitable blast.

My View:

I was originally planning to review only Against all Odds by Chris T. Kat, book two in the Odds Are series. Since it has been some time since I read book one, Despite the Odds, I didn’t think I would have to words to do it justice. However, I really have a lot of the same things to say about both books. You need to read these books in order.

These two book follow the same couple. Book one follows them getting together, and book two lets us peek into their world as they move forward together.

My favorite thing about these books is that both main characters are flawed. Neither of them have superficial flaws either. Joshua has Cerebral Palsey. He has good days and bad days. Good, however, is a relative term. Michael, for his part, can’t read. I think if the series continues we will find out more about why.

Neither man feels worthy of the other person. Both men think their deficiencies are more important than their positive qualities. They are both just waiting for the other to come to their senses.

Book one is all about overcoming initial impressions. It is about looking past the surface to the man underneath. It is about learning that there is more to someone than their ability to be like everyone else. It is about finding that person who can see past the flaws and make you a better person.

Book two is about accepting yourself and your limitations. It is about knowing when to lean on your other half and when to stand on your own. It is about knowing, deep in your soul, that your limitations don’t make you unworthy of love. It is also about finding ways to overcome those limitations to live the life you can live.

I adore these stories for their messages. Kat creates characters you can love and admire. There is no pity or empathy for these characters. There is only respect and awe.
