Title: Midwinter Night’s Dream (Unwrapping Hank #2)
Author: Eli Easton
Publisher: Self Published
Genre: Contemporary, Fiction, Gay, Gay Fiction, M/M Romance, Winter Holiday
Micah is the hippest, most chill guy on campus. But when he gets the hottest kiss of his life from a cute guy during a game of ‘spin the bottle’, Micah’s cool turns into a puddle of anxious goo. Sure, Micah’s always been a little bi-curious, but he never thought he’d pursue a guy, much less a guy who doesn’t seem to be interested in getting caught.
Leo is passionate about two things: gay rights activism and acting. He stays focused and in control, and he never, ever, dates straight guys. When a chance spin of a bottle at a party has him locking lips with Micah Springfield, president of the Delts, dread-headed, serial-dating, straight Micah, Leo is determined to forget about it, no matter how incendiary the sparks or how gorgeous Micah may be.
Leo has bigger problems. His senior project is directing Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream just before the Christmas break. When his venue cancels at the last minute, Micah offers the use of his parent’s barn in rural Pennsylvania. Leo’s play may be saved, but what about his heart? Between Micah’s sweet lips, his family’s welcoming arms, and a devious bulldog who is determined to play Puck, Leo may find himself falling under the spell of Christmas magic.
Midwinter Night’s Dream: The Inspiration for Leo
“Midwinter Night’s Dream”, my Christmas story for 2015, released on Nov 25th. It features Micah Springfield, Hank’s brother from “Unwrapping Hank”.
Micah, as established in “Unwrapping Hank”, is a laid-back guy. He’s uber hip, has dreads, and is majoring in environmental science. He’s definitely the son of his parents, hippies Lilith and Karma. He’s a soulful, easy-going guy that everyone likes. He’s president of a frat house at Penn State University, after all. He’s also a ‘free love’ proponent and has dated lots of women on campus.
In “Unwrapping Hank”, Micah expressed a curiosity about gay sex. He’s open-minded, and he’d like to experience “all kinds of things” before he’s too old to enjoy them.
The challenge in writing “Midwinter Night’s Dream” was to come up with a man who would be compelling enough, not just to get Micah into bed, but to get Micah into a committed relationship.
Micah’s love interest is Leo Dayson. He’s a senior majoring in theater, and he’s not only ‘out and proud’ but a serious gay activist who is not about to get involved with a straight guy. Micah’s reputation had preceded him, you see, and Leo is not interested in being Micah’s experiment. So when they share a scorching kiss during a game of “spin the bottle”, and Micah develops a serious crush, he really has to work to convince Leo he’s worth a shot. For our laid-back Micah, this is a defining moment.
I wanted a character who could be Micah’s equal but opposite. Leo is no flighty artist. He’s intense, ambitious, smart, and even a little OCD. As one of the characters in the book points out, he is fire to Micah’s mellow water nature. Not only will this give Micah the grounding and structure he needs, but it also makes for serious sparks in the bedroom. Micah loves it when Leo takes control!
Physically, Leo was inspired by a young Chris Hemsworth ala the photo below. I like the intensity and hard-ass look he has here. And he looks college age, like Leo.
I hope you enjoy “Midwinter Night’s Dream” and all your other lovely holiday reads. Merry Christmas!
About the Author
Having been, at various times and under different names, a minister’s daughter, a computer programmer, a game designer, the author of paranormal mysteries, a fan fiction writer, an organic farmer and a profound sleeper, Eli is happily embarking on yet another incarnation as a m/m romance author.
As an avid reader of such, she is tinkled pink when an author manages to combine literary merit, vast stores of humor, melting hotness and eye-dabbing sweetness into one story. She promises to strive to achieve most of that most of the time. She currently lives on a farm in Pennsylvania with her husband, three bulldogs, three cows and six chickens. All of them (except for the husband) are female, hence explaining the naked men that have taken up residence in her latest fiction writing.
