After barely surviving a shootout in New Orleans, Sidewinder medic Kelly Abbott has to suffer through a month of recovery before he can return home to Colorado. He’s not surprised when fellow Sidewinder Nick O’Flaherty stays with him in New Orleans. Nor is he surprised when Nick travels home with him to help him get back on his feet—after all, years on the same Marine Force Recon team bonded the men in ways that only bleeding for a brother can. He’s very surprised, though, when Nick humors his moment of curiosity and kisses him.

Nick knows all of Kelly’s quirks and caprices, so the kiss was a low-risk move on his part . . . or so he thought. But what should’ve been a simple moment unleashes a flood of confusing emotions and urges that neither man is prepared to address.

Now, Kelly and Nick must figure out what they mean to each other—friends and brothers in arms, or something even deeper?—before the past can come back to ruin their tenuous future.

Story Review:

Shock & Awe is a good friends to lover’s story and although Nick has never been with a man before their relationship seems seamless. It’s also a spin off to the Cut and Run Series and yes you do get to visit with Ty and Zane.

Sidewinders medic Kelly has been shot and injured and must now rest up and recover. Best friend and teammate Nick is right by his side. When a humourous conversation about what it’s like to be with a man turns into a kiss and try session neither man is too worried. Nick takes his friends curiosity in his stride, it is blatantly obvious that the man will do almost anything his friend asks.

What neither man expects is the feelings they are left with after the kiss and suddenly they can’t keep their hands of each other. This is way more than just sex though but will either man be brave enough to admit that to the other.

The story is effectively told in two parts with the first part being about Nick and Kelly trialling out their new found intimacy. These guys are such good friends and are not afraid to ask each other somewhat awkward questions that it all runs quite smoothly until Nick gets called back to base and Kelly doesn’t receive the same orders. Will their friendship and new found relationship hold up to Nick’s secret?

The second part sees Nick retuning for a couple of day on a secret mission. Whilst back in the states he passes a message to Zane but can’t tell him very much about how the love of his life is doing or what any of the guys are up. More importantly though he has arranged to meet Kelly and without the pressure of him being injured or taking pain medication will he feel the same?  The sex is hot, off the scales hot, and involves a video camera!

Narration Review:

Brock Thompson is new to me as a narrator and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to him. His clear voice and different tones for characters really added to feel of the book.
