Jamie Goh’s life took a downturn when he lost his job, and a bad relationship left him disillusioned and afraid to trust again. But his friends and family want to see him happy, even if he’s turned off by the idea of dating. Following a Christmas disaster that proves the UK really can’t handle snow, Jamie discovers not everyone is out to hurt him—and loyalty means something to some people—when a sweet guy goes above and beyond for him.
A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2015 Advent Calendar package “Sleigh Ride”.
Somewhere To Be is a charming tale of a Christmas setup going completely right. Jamie and Nick are meant to be. Jamie may not see it from the beginning, but Nick certainly does.
I adore Nick. He is a stand-up guy. Even when Jamie tries to push him away and gives into his trepidation, Nick is still there. We don’t know a lot about Nick since the story is told entirely from Nick’s point-of-view. However what he shows to Jamie, I like.
Jamie, on the other hand, is a little bit of the typical “I’ve been hurt once so every other man is evil” type of main character. I get a bit tired of that archetype. However, Jamie is entertaining enough that I was able to forgive and move on.
This isn’t a case of the main characters being snowed in together. It is a case of Nick riding to the rescue after he and Jamie have already started something good. Of course, there is that moment where Nick’s insecurities get the better of him. However, they are able to quickly move past that and ride off into the snowbank together.
I would certainly be interested in a full story from this author.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
