The Warlock Brothers of Havenbridge: Book Three

Like the electricity he commands, Pierce Blackmoor streaks through life on raw power and pure sexual energy. His conquests on the battlefield and in the bedroom form his foundation, but that bedrock crumbles when his younger brothers’ abilities surpass his own. Pierce finds himself at an all-time low, and clawing his way back to the top becomes his only concern.

Pierce’s plan to reassert his dominance, however, takes a backseat when he wounds Kale Aquilo, an emissary of the Beast King, lord of all shifters.

Kale’s beguiling nature shoots like a lightning bolt straight to Pierce’s soul, and when the soft-spoken Kale relays that a virus is killing his people, Pierce abandons his quest for power to do something he has never done before—protect someone other than himself.

As Kale, Pierce, and his brothers struggle to find the root of the magical virus spreading plague across Aeaea, the shifter island, they face a gauntlet of old and new foes. Soul struck, Pierce and Kale must uncover the truth behind the conspiracy gathering in the shadows.

My View:

I am loving this world. The magic, this sifters, the mystery, all these elements were just so well done and interesting. I loved learning about the shifters and the sorcerers. Their backstory and their culture was a good addition to this universe. I also loved that the overall series ARC was advanced in the midst of all the uproar. The action between the warlocks and the bad guys was informative and tension filled. I also love that the author seems to effortlessly build in great visuals to this series. I would really see what Pierce was seeing when he accessed his power to view auras. This story was full of fantastic imagery.

However, I feel that maybe this series is reaching a bit too far for the words that are being produced. I felt very confused and I felt like some of the most important things were rushed and glossed over. For example, WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE MAGICAL VIRUS THAT STARTED ALL THIS ANYWAY? Did I miss something (and please tell me if I did) because it was mentioned and then never really resolved. And second example: the title of this book is Soul Stuck, yet this idea is mentioned once or twice and added in at the very end to give a satisfying conclusion to this individual book. Pierce and Kale’s romance was a minor element in this story that was mostly ignored except when needed to further the plot.

And the plot is growing to over the top proportions without the proper development and explanation needed to make it cohesive. Every time a new concept or new mysterious element came up, the reader was left hanging as these were “secrets” being hidden by an entity that blamed other people’s secrets for the bad things happening. It was just too much with the keeping things hidden from the main characters and by extension the readers. I mean, yes, it served it purpose and I really need to know what will happen next and why it is all happening and who the big bad is, but as each story is unfolding, I am becoming less satisfied with the answers I am being given because there are too many new questions to eclipse those few answers.

There is also this overall feel of things being too easy. For all the secrets and all the new discoveries by the warlocks, they sure do seem to know all the answers exactly when they need to. And they sure seem to be able to grow their powers perfectly to take care of the threat at that moment. All of the growth and all of the learning seems to happen off page and then just magically work just right on the page. This series feels like an amalgam of many of the epic fantasy and magical series in literature, but it is missing a lot of the groundwork and development I need to really sink my teeth into the characters and their trials.

I hope the next book in this series starts to give me more about this Big Bad and all these new magical concepts surrounding the ARC. Because in spite of the fact that the execution of each individual story has left me wanting, the overall world building and the overall series ARC has great potential and has captured my interest. I really do want to know more about this world and I want to follow it to completion.
