Marc Francis is a paid assassin. Other than that, he’s a pretty normal guy, like how he’s got a little thing for the blond guy in 39D. Just a normal guy with a normal crush, until one of Marc’s enemies tries to get the drop on him in the elevator and then it’s the blonde cutie to the rescue: Dillon Carter, from 39D, sacrifices his potted plant to save him.
Instantly, Marc and Dillon develop a strong sexual connection. As the months go by, while they steal time together, it develops into something more. But Marc doesn’t really do relationships, and Dillon worries Marc will never be able to love him back the way he needs.
Also, when you’re a paid assassin, not everybody is rooting for your happy ever after.
I am a fan of SC Wynne. She always has solid stories that keep me turning the pages. Assassins are People, Too. Is just such a story. It isn’t terribly deep or even terribly unique, but it has characters you can’t help but like and just enough plot to keep you interested.
Marc and Dillon are in interesting couple. One a gruff, no-nonsense assassin and one a bookstore employee. Of course they help save each others lives and are thrown together in the process. Things of course get hot and steamy and feelings ensue. Of course what those feelings are and what each wants to do about those feelings are the crux of the story. Neither man is all that good at expressing themselves. They don’t want to be the one to put their heart on the line. Marc is almost incapable of doing just that.
I spent much of the story wondering if this relationship was the right thing or not. In the end, however, I like Marc and Dillon together. Of course their story isn’t over yet… at least I hope it isn’t.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
