Levi Binder is a Miami bartender who cares about only two things: sex and surfing. Ostracized by his Mormon family for his homosexuality, Levi is determined to live his life his own way, but everything changes when he meets massage therapist Jaime Marshall.
Jaime is used to being alone. Haunted by the horrors of his past, his only friend is his faithful dog, Dolly. He has no idea how to handle somebody as gorgeous and vibrant as Levi.
Complete opposites on the surface, Levi and Jaime both long for something that they can only find together. Through love and the therapeutic power of touch, they’ll find a way to heal each other, and they’ll learn to live as sinners in a family of saints.
Between Sinners and Saints by Marie Sexton has long been a favorite story of mine. First read in
PizzyGirl recently reviewed the eBook version of Between Sinners and Saints for a Retro Read spotlight. She sums up my feelings nicely, so I won’t repeat them here.
John Solo is not a perennial favorite. I can’t tell you what else I have listened to him perform though I know there have been a few. I was somewhat leery heading into my listen of Between Sinners and Saints. A great narrator can make a book into something more. In contrast, the wrong narrator can take a fabulous book and ruin it. So a favorite book combined with a relative unknown (to me) narrator is a bit of a risk. (Sorry but the 5-minute samples aren’t enough for me to make an educated determination on whether the narrator is right or not).
I can’t speak to Solo’s other work, but for Between Sinners and Saints, he got it right. He took two characters I love and gave them life. Levi is carefree but with something more under that exterior. Jamie is timid and reticent. Solo brought these emotions to the forefront.
I will certainly not shy away from another John Solo narrated title in the future.
I would like to thank the author for providing me with the audiobook of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
