Five Thing Friday ~ Ways You Say Hello

PBA_Five_Thing_Friday

Each Friday, here at Prism Book Alliance® we will be tackling a very important topic… of sorts.  Five Thing Friday…  The topic will change each week, so be sure to check back.  We encourage you to comment with your own Five Things!

Topic: Ways You Say Hello

We asked each of our reviewers to tell us about five ways you greet people

Brandilyn

Howdy
Hey
Hi
(or I just forget a greeting all together an launch into whatever is on my mind…)

Christine

“How’s it goin’?”
“Hi! And how are you today?”
“Good morning!” Or
“Good afternoon!”
“Hello!”
Physical greeting depends upon the person and our relationship. Usually a handshake if I don’t know them well, or a hug if more familiar. Kiss if very familiar 😉

Feliz

With strangers: a nod and “Hallo” or “Guten Tag”
with customers: a handshake and “Guten Tag, was kann ich für Sie tun?”
with friends: a handshake or a pat on the arm and “Hi”
with close friends: a hug and “Hi, wie geht’s, schön dich zu sehen”
with family: a hug and a kiss on the cheek

I’m from Germany and here is how I usually greet people:

The most common way is to simply say HI or HALLO, sometimes accompanied with a small HAND WAVE. If I meet with a good friend, we embrace and give us a SQUEEZY HUG, and if it is a formal occasion there will be a formal HANDSHAKE.

Where I lived before you could say MOIN at every hour of the day, but this was very local and people would look at me weird, would I do that now.

  1. In random order:
    1. Hoi
    2. Hallo
    3. Goedemorgen (good morning)
    4. Goedemiddag (good afternoon)
    5. Goedenavond (good evening)

  2. Mel, did you live just south of the Danish border? Moin is very common in that area, on both sides as far as I know.

    Hej
    Goddag
    Davs
    God morgen
    God aften
