Book One: The Heart of All Worlds

In the nation of Villalu…

Since his childhood, Brieden Lethiscir has admired The Sidhe, the beautiful and magical beings native to the Faerie world outside his homeland of Villalu. Though he grew up in a culture accepting of Sidhe enslavement by Villalu’s elite, Brieden turns against the practice when he becomes a steward to Prince Dronyen, who is viciously abusive of his sidhe slave Sehrys. Captivated by the handsome and mysterious sidhe slave, Brieden vows to free and return Sehrys to his homeland.

As they escape the capital and navigate a treacherous path to the border, Breiden and Sehrys grow close. Breiden soon learns both the true power of The Sidhe, and that the world that he thought he knew is not what it once seemed. If they survive to reach the border, he will have to make a choice: the love of
his life, or the fate of his world.

The Sidhe originated as a beloved work of fan-based fiction read more than one million times online. Now Book One of The Heart of All Worlds series, it is author Charlotte Ashe’s first novel.

My View:

Life is a Journey. Sound cliche? Maybe, but it is one of my favorite cliches, and it is quite true. You rarely end up where you think you will when you start said journey. Every decision you make and person you encounter has the potential to change the course of your life. The Sidhe by Charlotte Ashe is a fantasy that takes on this very subject.

A walk through the woods on a spirit quest changed the course of party-elf Sehrys’ life. That journey eventually brought him to attention of the human Brieden, who would become Sehrys’ salvation and the other half of his soul.

For Brieden the journey started even further back when he glimpsed an Sidhe as a child. When his mother taught him to respect his fellow creatures of the world. His journey took him to the palace. All it took was one glimpse of the enslaved Sidhe for him to resolve to rescue Sehrys from the future king’s clutches. Little did he know how important that decision would become.

Their journey to save each other is a full of twists and turns. It is full of magic and evil. Help comes from unlikely sources but not every action has a positive outcome. Brieden and Sehrys have to fight for their lives, their love, their sanity, and each other. They encounter liars, thieves, guards, and allies. They save each other repeatedly, and they fall in love.

Their journey is not a short one. However, I don’t think they could have arrived at their destiny any other way. Each encounter, fight, and brush with death taught them something about the world, themselves, and each other. They learned more about the history of the “other side” along the way. They made and lost both friends and enemies. They tried to sacrifice themselves for each other’s best interest. They found the other half of themselves.

Their story is only beginning. Ashe gave us a rich world filled with deep characters and stories hiding around every turn. I can’t wait to return.
