In the sixth novel in the Rainbow Award-nominated paranormal M/M SoulShares series, Fiachra Dubhdara is a Fae living a stolen life, in a body that isn’t his own. He’s also the most junior detective on the D.C. Vice squad, assigned the task of infiltrating and shutting down Tiernan Guaire’s Purgatory.
Peri Katsura is the newest and hottest masseur at Lochlann Doran’s Big Boy Massage, inexplicably drawn to the gorgeous cop assigned to bust him but needing to hide a dark secret of his own.
And the owner of Fiachra’s body has a plan to get it back – a plan that may cost Fiachra his SoulShare and close the doors of Purgatory forever. Unless the Marfach gets there first…
If you have been following Rory Ni Coileain’s SoulShare series, then you are probably as excited for Mantled in Mist as I was. If you haven’t yet picked up this fabulous series, you really should. You can see my review for the first 5 installments here. It is definitely a series and should be read in order. I also recommend re-reading at least book 5, Blowing Smoke, before picking up Mantled in Mist just to refresh your memory on where we are in our Fae’s fight against the Marfach. No to mention that all the couples we have met so far play a large role in this installment.
As with the other stories in Ni Coileain’s Urban Fantasy series, Mantled in Mist combines magic, fighting evil, sex, and of course love. In this installment we meet two new characters, Fiachra and Peri. If you can’t tell from the names Fiachra is the Fae and Peri is his soul share. Fiachra’s trip to the human realm, however, is not the same as the first five. He wasn’t cast out. He was trying to escape. He was trying to end the pain and suffering he felt from being a victim of bullying all his life. Of course the powers that be had other ideas. Peri has his own suffering that needs to end.
Nothing in this world is coincidence. There is always someone pulling the puppet strings. Since Peri and Fiachra are soulshares, you know they will end up together. You know from past experience that their bond is a key ingredient in the current attempts to vanquish the Marfach. However, getting from here to there is worth the read. Coileain’s world is beautiful. Okay so maybe beautiful is far from the right description of the world — it is actually pretty gritty and unforgiving. The way she draws you into the world is, however, excellent.
This is a series that has so many facets that you will pick up something new on each re-read, as I did when I re-read all five books in preparation for Mantled in Mist. I am excited for book seven, Undertow.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
