When Quinn, the Supreme Alpha of all the Nine Territories first sees a young man in the arena, he is struck by his beauty and by the fact that despite his chains, he’s barely contained. Quinn recognizes him almost at once as the human who led an assassination attempt on him just weeks before, yet when he tries to take him into custody, he’s shocked to find the human is his fated mate. He has only one option to keep the council from executing the young man for his crimes—to make an example of Aaron, and to debase and degrade him as his love slave so that none of Aaron’s followers will celebrate him as a martyr or a hero.
Aaron is on a quest to find his brother, separated from him during the plague that devastated the population, killing seventy percent of all the humans on the planet. When he gets word that his brother is among the rebels, he joins them too, hoping to find him. Instead he gets caught up in a failed assassination attempt on the Supreme Alpha, a strong, powerful wolf shifter who now has Aaron right where he wants him–at his mercy.
Despite his growing attraction to Aaron, Quinn has to try to keep his heart from getting too involved, and when another assassination plot is uncovered, Quinn has to make a difficult decision. He must put Aaron aside despite his feelings for him and imprison him, even though the mating bond between them means Aaron will suffer and die without Quinn. And when Aaron disappears and word gets back to Quinn that he’s dying, he has to take a leap of faith to bring him home and back to Quinn’s bed where he belongs.
Property of the Alpha is the first book in the Supremacy of Wolves series by Shannon West and Victoria Sue and as such sets the scene for the world we are about to enter. The planet has been ravaged by a plague that has seen the death of the majority of humans, the few remaining are mainly rebels in a world now controlled by the wolves.
Quinn is the Alpha of the Nine Territories – meaning he is the big bad wolf in charge and although his reputation is of a harsh man who gets things done quickly he is quite liberal in his thinking and wants to bring back a harmony back between wolves and humans. When he spots a human near the fighting ring who he recognises as responsible for an assassination attempt against him weeks earlier he quickly makes plans for his capture and incarceration, that all goes to hell when he discovers the man is his mate.
Aaron has very personal reasons for joining the rebels and fighting against the wolves but through deception and pure bad luck he is now on the most wanted list. A man that faints at the mere sight of blood – the last thing he is is a killer but that’s just one misunderstanding that will need to be cleared up.
Their mating is no bed of roses. Quinn has to keep up a façade or he may be challenged for his position. As much as he wants to dote on his mate the exact opposite happens and although Aaron appears to be given no choice in what happens it ultimately keeps him alive and safe. Quinn is everything I like in an alpha wolf – possessive, growly and very macho but with a huge soft spot for his mate. Aaron may seem like he is put upon but he is very adept at wrapping his wolf around his finger and getting what he wants.
This is a great start in setting up a new series and I’m looking forward to see how it progresses.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
