Retro Reads Spotlight with Jambrea Jo Jones
We are here today to talk about the Alliance series. What can you tell us about it? It’s a sci-fi romantic suspense series. Two of my favorite things in one place. There is a lot of action as well as romance. Book 2 might have a horror tag to it. Um… I like the bad guy? And sometimes they are the bad guys that can NOT be redeemed. You get their POV in these stories as well. I think it helps with the flow.
Tell us more about our main characters? This series has different characters for each book, they are introduced as the series goes on. I’m thinking of doing a spin off that would be a series following two characters, but I haven’t started it yet.
Book 1: Rave and Kain. These two are former lovers who were ripped apart because of a set up. They have to learn to trust again.
Book 2: Rock, Sela and Zander. You meet Rock and Sela in book one. I think this might be my favorite in the series. These three have to balance each other out. Sela and Rock are both hard headed warriors who can’t really work out with just the two of them and then Zander shows up. He is completely different from the other two. (This is m/m/f- Once I wrote Retribution and Sela’s character was introduced, I knew she had to have a story. I hope others feel that way too. Something I did with this one was do the story in just the male POV. Sela is there, but you don’t get her thoughts and such as you do Rock and Zander. Oh! And the bad guy. Lol )
Book 3: Voss and Maverick. Voss is a privileged person who had everything taken from him and Maverick is his chance at freedom. Maverick is just following orders, but there is something about Voss that intrigues him.
Book 4: James and Alphonse. James is a friend of Maverick’s. A lot of stuff has been going on and he is ready for a vacation. He runs into Alphonse and thinks he is a con man. But things don’t add up. They do butt heads! Two strong characters.
Book 5: Ricardo and Gilliland. This story is a throwback to get some information on what is happening in the present. Ricardo is ex-military and Gilliland was an undercover cop. I think this might be my 2nd favorite of the series.
Book 6: Angel and Frank. This story wraps up what has been going on through the series. Frank worked for a crime boss, but he wanted out. Angel kind of gave that to him by kidnapping him. They end up on Earth and find out something that shouldn’t be true.
What about the Alliance series makes you the proudest? That it’s finished? Lol I think the fact that each story builds on the other and that it is my favorite two genres.
If you could change one thing in the Alliance series what would it be and why? I might have made them longer. I think there is more world building I could have done. That is why I want to try a spin off.
Can you talk a little about the inspiration for the Alliance series? I think it was a mix between Firefly and Star Trek. I wrote the first one for a Space Opera call and it sort of built from there. I would introduce a character in one book and wanted to know more about them so I’d give them a book.
Will we be hearing more from this world in the future? Yes. I just don’t know when. There is a character I introduce in Avenger that I think should travel space.
Anything else you want to tell us about the Alliance series? It’s one of my favorite series I’ve written. I hope others enjoy it as much as I do. I love adding in the villain and showing his side and I think I showcased that well throughout these books.
Tell us about some of your other titles. I write a little bit of everything because I read a bit of everything. I have male-female stories as well as male-male. I enjoy suspense so no matter the other genre I almost always have some form of suspense. My newest, Vegas Sin, is contemporary romantic suspense that follows a serial kidnapper as well as the two romantic leads. That is my first full length male-male story. I’m very proud of that one. Well, I’m proud of them all. Lol I’m in a few anthologies. One of my favorites is An Unconventional Chicago. It’s an alternate universe and, of course, suspense!
Rapid Fire Time
Sweet or Savory? Do I have to pick! Both! Together! Lol
Shave or wax? Shave
Jocks or Nerds? Nerdy jocks are my FAVORITE!
Red Heads or Blondes? Red head
Hamburger or Hotdog? Hotdog
TV or movies? Both!
Cat in the Hat or Horton Hears a Who? Cat in the Hat
Pasta or potatoes? Potatoes
Favorite Color? Depends on the day! Pink or red sometimes green
Cook or bake? Bake
What are you working on? What is next? I am working on a couple things right now. I have to finish up my next GRL anthology that will take place in Atlanta. I also have a paranormal where they are dying off that I need to get finished and my next Totally 5 Star book set in Alaska which won’t have suspense, but will be more geared toward romantic comedy!

A government agency isn’t a place you’d expect to find love.
Not all are soldiers, but the Alliance has a long arm and touches many lives.
The Galaxy may just be big enough for espionage, murder, science and honour among men.
