When shifter hunters strike, werewolf Tanner Groff and bear shifter Van Saunders fight for their friends and their newly born passion for each other in a battle they may not win.
The past year has been hard for werewolf Tanner Groff. After his pack was killed by shifter hunters, he’s staying on the move, looking to warn other shifters there’s a band of militaristic hunters looking to kill every shifter they can find. When he catches the scent of a bear shifter named Van, Tanner changes his course and follows in hopes of having a quiet discussion with Van. But before that can happen, the hunters strike sending them on a desperate rescue mission they aren’t sure will succeed. Being in close quarters with passions running high, Tanner and Van find a mutual attraction and hope they can survive long enough to explore it and the new path their lives are taking.
A New Alpha in Town is the start of a new shifter series from author AJ Marcus that I will be watching in the coming months. Marcus gave us a world ready for expansion. Characters we want to revisit and intrigue we will need to keep tuning in for.
The Hardwood Pack is a mixed species shifter pack hidden in the mountains. They are in a fight for their very survival against a group of hunters intent on their (and every other shifter’s) demise. Tanner has faced these hunters twice. Losing his entire pack the first time and gaining a new one the second time.
You can’t help but want Tanner to find a home and his mate — he does in bear shifter, Van. Their relationship is pretty much insta-love as is so prevalent in the shifter trope, but they make a solid pair, never-the-less. More important in this installment, however, is getting to know the pack, the enemy, and Tanner. All of which were done in a way to keep my interest and leave me wanting the next installment.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
