Sergei Andronikov was a child when the Mafia wiped out his family, leaving him with nothing but a hunger for revenge. Years later, through ruthless strategy and tireless patience, he’s a contract killer working for the three families ruling Cape Swan… and he’s nearly in position to bring them all down from the inside.
Domenico “Dom” Maisano is Mafia royalty, a made man… and a hitman. He’s caught up in a violent life he can’t escape, struggling to maintain an image he doesn’t want, and suppressing desires he can’t have.
A chance encounter throws the killers into each other’s paths. Though Dom knows he’s playing a dangerous game, he’s intrigued and keeps coming back. Sergei can’t resist him either—Dom is everything he set out to destroy, but he’s also everything he’s ever ached for in a man.
Then Sergei gets the contract he’s been waiting for—the hit that promises to bring the town’s Mafia to its knees.
But when a boss makes an unexpected move, Sergei must choose between dropping the hammer on the families he vowed to annihilate, and protecting the man he swore he wouldn’t love.
And the wrong choice—or even the right one—will destroy them both.
The mafia of Cape Swan destroyed Sergei Andronikov’s family when he was just a child, and he has sworn revenge upon the men who took everything from him. Working from the inside, he is now close to completing his mission of elimination. Domenico Maisano is a made man…and a secret hit man doing his mafia boss uncle’s dirty work. Trapped in a life ruled by organized crime, he is sick of being controlled by others, brutality, and lies. When Dom and Sergei happen to cross paths one fateful evening, the lives they have known are forever altered. Choices and actions are now filled with the direst of consequences, and their chances of survival diminish at every turn.
Wow! In If the Seas Catch Fire, L.A. Witt has penned an action-packed roller coaster ride filled with tough, gritty characters, edge-of-your-seat suspense, and hot, steamy man-sex. This dark, edgy page-turner reads like a feature film, keeping the heart pounding through action-packed scenes, foreboding tension, and the characters’ erotic, sizzling romps in the bedroom. Hard-hitting, violent, erotic, and even tender when it needs to be, this novel grabs the reader from the first page and doesn’t let go. Danger and intrigue abound, punctuated by horrific and terrifying events that continually reveal the true nature of the threat that surrounds assassin Sergei and Mafia prince/hitman Dom and their deadly connection. As the tension ramps up towards an exciting climax, the reader is caught in the vortex, wondering how in hell these men are going to escape the ensnarement of their lives in one piece.
As main characters, Dom and Sergei are complicated and captivating. Their individual internal turmoil make them human and likable, despite the violence they carry out. Each has a story, a background that has forced choices upon them, choices that bring their humanity to the surface and create undeniable sympathy for them and their situations. The attraction between them is positively electric. L.A. Witt excels at writing men with chemistry, and Dom and Sergei burn up the pages. Their intimate scenes together are numerous yet varied, and the reader is drawn into their relationship through their need for one another and the desperate situations they face.
I loved this blend of crime thriller and m/m romance and highly recommend it. For readers who love the passion and intrigue of the mafia/hitman relationship, it is a must-read. L.A. Witt, you have done it again! So when is the movie coming out? 😉
