Book 2 in the Wolf series

Three years ago Lyle made a mistake that cost him his freedom, and almost his life. Now, sick to death of watching his father love the man that Lyle wanted, Lyle accepts an offer to leave Wolf, WY behind and see what life in Washington, D.C. can do for him instead.

When Lyle comes across a seductive, attractive stranger with a fascinating yet terrifying view of humanity, he’s more than intrigued. It doesn’t take Lyle long to realize that Arius isn’t just playing games, though, and when Lyle runs across a secret in Arius’ lair he has no choice but to flee, even knowing his actions will enrage Arius.

On the run, with only a psychic’s second sight and his own instinct to help him, Lyle has nowhere to go but home. The only question is, will they have him when he shows up.

Hello! And welcome to the next installment in the blog tour and giveaway for my newest release, Wolf en Garde. As I’m writing this in the past, the day is overcast and cold. But I’m hoping by the time this post comes around that I can comment on how beautiful the day is and how lucky we all are to be experiencing it. I’m telling myself that by that/this time it’s going to finally be Spring. Maybe if I believe it hard enough, it’ll actually happen.

One thing I can be sure of is that it’s great to see you back, and that I can’t thank you enough for joining me on this tour. And before I forget—before I get running on this post and don’t come back to it—I’d like to take this opportunity to remind you to read through to the end of the post to find out how you could win your very own signed, print copy of Wolf en Garde, a sterling silver (nickel and lead-free) Howling Wolf Bangle, and a $20 gift certificate to the Less Than Three Press book market!

A quick recap for those who might not know: I’ve been introducing, and in some cases re-introducing, the characters that make up Wolf’s stories through tiny teasers from the novel. If you feel so inclined, I’d love to know what you think of them. Please feel free to leave your opinions in the comments below, then run over to Rafflecopter and click on that “leave blog post comment” to be sure and get your comment counted for the giveaway. ☺

One of my most favourite side characters to write in a novel are the kids. They remind me of what life was like before a person had to worry about the mundane and couldn’t spend time worrying about, dreaming of, or being thrilled by the things that go bump in the night, let alone even being open-minded enough to notice them. They bring innocence, clairvoyance, and magic to a story. Plus, I get to relive moments from my past, like taking road trips up north with my brother…

Tiny Teaser: Introducing – Isaac O’Connell

A light tap on Lyle’s shoulder drew his attention back into the car, back into current time, and into the seat behind him. He eyed the rest of the van, cautiously at first, in case he’d been called by his father, then frowned when he saw the grin on Randy’s face. “Your brother wants you,” Randy whispered, his eyes lit with knowing amusement.

Behind Randy, Isaac’s expression mirrored Randy’s. Belying Isaac’s usual remarks regarding his maturity, his legs swung in the seat and he had a strong case of ‘ants in the pants,’ as their mother used to say. When Isaac saw that he’d secured his brother’s attention, he gleefully pointed out the window.

Whether they were going by too quickly or Lyle had waited too long to respond, the only thing Lyle caught on the sign were the two big words at the middle of it. “Wolf Trap.

“What in the ever-loving hell—” Lyle began, and was immediately cut off by Isaac’s laugh. Hannah cupped a hand over her mouth, Randy chuckled, and Vaughn rolled his eyes.

“Sounds like a good place for Lyle to stay away from,” Hannah teased.

Lyle gave his dad an annoyed, questioning glance that he sincerely hoped was giving off a ‘Are you really going to let them do that?’ message.

The only reprimand Vaughn passed back was, “Settle down. Mr. Connor is trying to drive.”

“Oh, they don’t bother me,” Henry piped up. “It’s been too damn long since I heard kids laughing in my back seat.” He checked his passengers in the rearview. “Besides, it is a funny name, isn’t it, kiddos?

The kids didn’t respond, doing what they did best—which was, to Lyle’s constant annoyance, immediately snapping to attention and doing whatever the hell their father had told them to do. That didn’t stop Henry from continuing, however. “What you’ve got right there is a national park. Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts. They’ve even got a Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods. I don’t think the Three Pigs run it, though.” He grinned at the mirror, assessed both kids, and seemed to decide they hadn’t caught his reference. “You know, little place in the woods. Wolf Trap. The three pigs…”

Behind Lyle, Vaughn put a hand over his mouth and turned to the window to glare out from above his fingers. Lyle could barely contain his pleasure over his father’s irritation—especially considering it was being directed at the two perfect ones for a change. “I guess one doesn’t usually attend in a little red riding hood, hmm?” he asked Henry sweetly.

Henry laughed out loud. “Good one! Hey,” Henry looked back into the rearview. “We should go. I can get tickets. They have puppet shows and storytelling. All kinds of things. It could be fun!”

“Oh, I think the kids are a little too big for puppet shows,” Vaughn said. “Besides, Randy has been planning this visit for a while. I’m sure he already has a full itinerary.” He turned to look pointedly at his lover. “It probably doesn’t include Wolf Trap.”

  1. *chortling* Oh my god… this is too rich. I like Randy’s Dad. I liked him since Book 1, but this is priceless. And now even I don’t think Lyle’s being paranoid.

And Vaughn feels to me like he’s about ready to burst a vein, possibly damning the authors who came up with those stories too, while he’s at it. XD

And if I was Randy… I’ll be finding some way to keep things toned down a little when it comes to wolf jokes. “Strong and silent sex-god” could, potentially, be both good and (a little) evil, right? XD

    • I would have to say that yes, it can be both a good and evil thing! XD

I have to admit that I enjoyed playing with their family dynamics a bit. Here’s hoping it all works out in the end? *grins*

Thanks for the comment and good luck with the giveaway! <3

  2. LOL! That was a fun excerpt. Thanks for the chuckles this morning. My kids would love a puppet theatre in the woods, even despite the name.

    • I agree, Jen! I would love a puppet theatre in the woods as well. What a setting! 😀

You’re very welcome. I’m thrilled I could brighten your morning. Good luck with the giveaway and thanks for coming along with the tour! <3

    • Thank you, Shirley! I’m glad you enjoyed it. 😀

I had a good time researching Washington for this novel. They’ve got so many cool things going on there!

Good luck with the giveaway and thanks for stopping in on the tour again! <3

    • Yay! Thank you, Laurie! I hope you enjoy it to no end, but I can’t wait to hear what you think either way.

Best of luck with the giveaway and thank you for joining the tour. <3

  3. I wish I could claim the fear of things hiding under the bed was left behind with my childhood….then again I love cartoons so maybe my childhood hasn’t been left behind at all. I don’t believe in aliens or ghosts until it’s dark outside and the lights are off. So the lights are never off.

Isaac reminds me of my youngest first youngest brother. Well….when he was Isaac’s age anyway. Now that he’s a captain in the Army……no the humor is still the same. Never mind.

So, looked up Wolf Trap online. They’ve got Kenny Rogers, Riverdance, other artists I’ve never heard of before. That could be fun. Only thing that might ruin it for me, it’s 15C there right now. Way too hot to be standing outside. I fixed my bike so I could stop trudging through the desert heat that has arrived lately. I’ve been dying on my usual 30 minute walks. Heck it’s 73F right now.

I don’t know how people deal with this. I have a friend who can wear his jacket year round, he’s always cold. We have fun calling each other deranged and sick for our choices in heat.

Anyway, any book that condones teasing grumpy people is a must read for me. Is…is that a bad thing?

    • No, Frost, that’s a very good thing! 😀

15C sounds just about perfect… why don’t I like farther south again? XD

Thanks again for commenting and reading, my friend. It’s always a pleasure to read your comments. Good luck with the giveaway! <3

    • You’re very welcome, H.B.! Thank your for reading and commenting. I’m thrilled you’re enjoying the posts. 😀

Good luck with the giveaway! <3

  4. This was such a delightful and fun moment to read! 😀 😀 😀

I can not say it enough: I do love these kids! it is wonderful how easy going they are with their older brother. Despite his attitude towards his dad and Randy, Lyle seems to be a great older brother to them or they would not be like that around him. Kids have very fine tuned feelings.

And it is beautiful how you depict Hannah and Issac as just normal kids here. 😀 And it is also beautiful how you pulled it off to bring over this scene to be so easy and normal and happy. 😀

Thank you so much for another great excerpt of your stunning novel, buddy. 😀

  5. I’m not usually a fan of kids in books because I find so many authors either make them too precocious or too babyish. BUT when an author gets them right, it’s so much fun! Looking forward to reading more about these kids, though. 🙂

    • Thank you, Laura! I was blessed to be able to work with Raphael who does the artwork for the Wolf series covers. And I’m thrilled you enjoyed the blurb! 😀

Best of luck with the giveaway! <3

    • Thank you, Trix! I know they were a lot of fun to write, anyway. 😀

I’m so glad you’ve been part of the tour and I wish you lots of luck on the giveaway. <3
