When you realize you want to marry your best friend at age six, life should follow a pretty predictable path, right? Maybe not.

As a kid, Evan King thought Scott Sparrow was the most amazing person he’d ever met. At seventeen, his crush runs a little deeper, and nothing seems simple anymore. Scott is more interested in football and girls than playing superheroes, and Evan’s attention is focused on getting into art school. A late-night drunken kiss is something to be forgotten, not obsessed over for the next ten years.

When life suddenly brings them back together, it doesn’t take much for the flame Evan carried for Scott nearly all his life to come roaring back, and Evan discovers that life sometimes has a strange way of coming full circle.

My View:

I love friends to lovers stories, especially ones that span a long time, and this was just great. Evan and Scott are a terrific pairing, they are both sensitive and caring guys, they struggle with life and relationships and yet… despite all that has happened they are there for each other, mainly. And like true friends they call each other out on their shit and are still friends, although sometimes it takes longer to sort out than others.

The use of time is well done, each kiss is pivotal, and you really get to understand Evan and Scott and appreciate that they really do love and care for each other. There is a tiny bit of uncertainty and angst, enough to take the edge off the story being too sweet in parts, but not enough that you feel eviscerated.

For me, the last 10 -15% felt almost unnecessary, and dragged a little – which  was a shame as otherwise this was a prefect example of a sweet romance.

  1. Definitely want to read it. Author mentioned this yesterday, got interesting & now the review. Seems the author can still change this story into 1 less story as you say or 2 add a bit more and flesh it out with a bit of fresh change in editing. Both options are always good for an author to know so over time they can get new eyes from readers like you said. So it will be interesting now what happens over the next year or two.
