Polar bear shifter Graham Tundra can’t believe his bad luck. Not only is he traded to another baseball team midseason, but he’s also teamed up with Trigger Mallow: widely considered the best player in the game—but with the worst attitude.
Trigger is on the fence about Graham. As a grizzly bear shifter, he’s relieved to have another ursine on the team, even if they are different species. The problem is Trigger is in the middle of his natural mating season, and Graham looks too damn good to pass up.
What begins as friends with benefits shows potential to grow into a deeper connection. If only they can put aside their differences, learn to trust, listen to their feelings, and realize it’s more than just a bear thing.
I am enjoying this cute shifter series and Loaded for Bear was a fun addition. This story was relatively low angst, full of entertainment, and capped off with a romance that was the perfect mix of hard and soft emotions.
Trigger and Graham were great characters. They had personality and I loved seeing them interact with each other, their teammates, and their inner animals. The internal debates were cute. I liked how their banter evolved as the story progressed. It went from beligerance, to arrogance, to playful, and back to angry before finally settling on lovingly snarky. It mirrored the progression of the mating.
I am not 100% certain why the father storyline was added other than maybe for some angst but to me it was more distracting than anything else since it didn’t really go anywhere. I did like the baseball games and the team interactions. I loved the rivalry and the resolution. This series is really set up well for continuation and I am looking forward to discovering the next pair to become mated!
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
