Title: Kissing Alex
Author: RJ Scott
Publisher: Love Lane Books
Genre: Action/Adventure, Contemporary, Gay Romance
Martial arts expert Lewis is the kind of bodyguard who slips under most people’s radar. Quiet, reserved, but constantly on alert, he’ll do his job, keep his charges safe, then relax by reading Shakespeare in his spare time.
When he’s given a case involving a spoiled celebrity singer, Lewis isn’t all that impressed. The job is nothing but babysitting a pretty boy, and he’s used to diplomatic postings with depth and challenge. What could he possibly have in common with the man he’s being forced to look after?
Alex became the envy of many when he and his fellow bandmates won second place in a huge TV talent show. He has more money than he knows what to do with, no life goals, an ex-boyfriend selling a sex tape and now, someone who wants him dead, or at the very least maimed.
Can Lewis keep Alex safe, even when things usually in his control go to hell? Is running to a remote Scottish island the only way for them to stay alive?
RJ Scott on Kissing Alex
Glencoe and Ben Nevis
Some of you reading this will be familiar with the name Glencoe, and the massacre of thirty-eight MacDonalds from the Clan MacDonald of Glencoe. They were killed by their guests who had accepted their hospitality, on the grounds that the MacDonalds had not been prompt in pledging allegiance to the new monarchs, William and Mary. Another forty women and children died of exposure after their homes were burned.
Glencoe is called a Highland Paradise, dramatic mountains and waterfalls, with whitewashed cottages nestled into valleys and rock. (http://discoverglencoe.scot/). This wild landscape is on my wishlist for my 50th birthday Scottish tour, and to me kind of sums up what I expect from the Highlands, a stunning, stark, but romantic image and one I am so excited to see.
Then there is Ben Nevis, the tallest mountain in the British Isles, [1,346 metres (4,414 ft)]. I don’t think I will be climbing that one but I’m happy to sit somewhere to look at the view and drink a cup of tea – I’ll let hubby do any and all things related to climbing J
Of course, there is also the Ben Nevis Distillery (single malt whisky distillery) at the foot of the mountain, founded in 1825 by John McDonald (known as “Long John” – and no, I don’t know why), it is one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland. The water used to make the whisky comes from the Allt a’ Mhuilinn, the stream that flows from Ben Nevis’ northern corrie. I will personally take full responsibility for tasting the whisky… LOL…
Did you know that In fiction, the Glencoe massacre, along with the murder of the Douglasses at the Black Dinner of 1440, inspired the events in the novel A Storm of Swords by George R. R. Martin known as “The Red Wedding”…
My newest release, Kissing Alex, is the sixth book in my Bodyguards series. The setting for this book is the fictional island of Stoirmeil (The stormy isle) just off the west coast of Scotland.
Lewis looked at Alex. “Everything okay?”
Alex was absolutely still, staring out over the sea. He’d pushed the hood of his coat back, and his fine hair flew loose around his face. “That’s stunning,” he murmured and nodded toward the view.
The Isle of Eigg rose dramatically from the sea, and yes, from this vantage point, the view was stunning, particularly on a blue cloudless day like today. “I know.”
“And you grew up here?” Alex gestured around him, then pushed his gloveless hand back in his coat just as quickly.
Alex seemed lost for words.
“You want to keep going? Not far now.”
They followed the grassy clifftop north, and finally, as they reached the top of the hill, Lewis was home.
“This is where you’ll be staying for the next few weeks,” he said, then walked down the path. With every step Lewis’s tensions eased.
He might be on the job, and he had Alex to think about, but he was here on his island. And that was enough.
