Cole McGinnis Mysteries
Former LAPD detective Cole McGinnis’s life nearly ended the day his police partner and best friend Ben Pirelli emptied his service weapon into Cole and his then-lover, Rick. Since Ben turned his gun on himself, Cole thought he’d never find out why Ben tried to destroy him.
Years later, Cole has stitched himself back together. Now a private investigator and in love with Jae-Min Kim, a Korean-American photographer he met on a previous case, Cole’s life is back on track—until he discovers Jeff Rollins, a disgraced cop and his first partner, has resurfaced and appears to be working on the wrong side of the law.
As much as Cole’s fought to put the past behind him, he’s soon tangled up in a web of lies, violence, and death. Jeff Rollins is not only trying to kill Cole’s loved ones, he is also scraping open old wounds and long-forgotten memories of the two men Cole loved and lost. Cole is sure Rollins knows why Ben ruined all their lives, but he isn’t looking for answers. Now Cole is caught in a cat-and-mouse game with a cold-blooded killer with the key to not only his past but his future.
I wrote the original review of Dirty Heart, the final installment in Rhys Ford’s Cole McGinnis Mysteries series. Each story before brought us that much closer to solving the mystery surrounding Cole’s shooting and the murder/suicide of his former lover and former partner. This installment brings it full circle and is a must for any Cole McGinnis fan.
Here is my original review of Dirty Heart, the eBook
This is the book all fans of Rhys Ford’s Cole McGinnis Mystery series have been waiting for and dreading in equal measure. Ford gives our boys a fitting and fantastic send off that leaves you wanting more. Seriously, I don’t know that it could have ended any other way. I don’t want to give away secrets, but you will either love the answers or hate them.
Love Cole and Jae. Love Ichi and Bobby. Ford will take you on a journey from the height of happiness to depths of dispair. You will laugh, cry, smile, and bite your nails. You might even have to pick your jaw up off the ground.
Sometimes you eagerly await a book in a series and are filled with only disappointment when you finally read it. I am happy to report that is not the case with Dirty Heart. At least, it wasn’t for me. The only way it could have been more perfect is if Greg Tremblay had been reading it to me. From what I understand, the audiobook will be out shortly. I will be snatching that up and listening as soon as possible.
If you have not started the Col McGinnis series, I can’t recommend the audio’s highly enough. Greg Tremblay’s voice is like magic. He becomes Cole, Jae, Bobby, Ishi, and more. He brings Ford’s vision to life and is a pleasure to listen to for hours on end.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the audiobook of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
