Hi, all! It’s the 30th again, and you know what that means. I’M BACK! Bwahahahahaha!!!
In this case, it’s the 30th of June, which makes me both sad (because this year has flown by so quickly and I can hardly believe it’s halfway over already!) and glad (because one of my favorite holidays is less than a week away! Yay, 4th of July!).
Now, I have a serious affection for the 4th of July. I think it’s all the fireworks. Or maybe it’s the whole “celebrating freedom” aspect of it. (I suspect it may be a combination of the two, along with a few other things. I mean, who doesn’t love a barbeque, right?) In fact, I’m going to say that July 4th, or Independence Day, as we like to call it, is my second favorite holiday of the year. Yes, my absolute favorite is Halloween. grins
In previous years, I’ve done things for the 4th, like go out to see the fireworks displays, attend parties, have a cookout and such. This year, as my elderly relative is living with me, I won’t be able to do those things, as she’s very much housebound and I’m not comfortable leaving her alone. So… I’m starting a new tradition.
This year, I’ll be putting my former-chef credentials to use and cooking up a storm at home. I may very well invite a few friends over, and I suspect that there will be some sort of adult beverages. toothy grin I’m going to watch Independence Day (the first one, which I tend to see at least a few times a year), because it’s awesome… and because Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum are awesome in it.
I’m going to laugh, and drink a bit, and have a few moments of silence for the recent tragedy at Pulse in Orlando, and then I’ll go back to celebrating. Because I have a life I like, and a place to call home, and a very sweet old lady who counts on me to make her life better… and because I’m free.
And I will absolutely watch a drunken crop-duster take out an entire alien ship, and I will cheer.
So an early but Happy Independence Day to me and mine, and to you and yours, if you happen to be American. And if you’re not, I wish you all a very happy July 4th anyway. grins
Until next time, in the words of the esteemed Bill & Ted — Be excellent to each other! And party on, dudes! 🙂
