Title: A Kind of Romance
Author: Lane Hayes
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Cover Artist: Aaron Anderson
Release Date: 06/06/2016
Zeke Gulden is a ruthless Wall Street exec. His hard-edged, no-nonsense attitude has served him well in the cutthroat business world, but less so in his personal life. When he finds out his ex-boyfriend cheated on him with a coworker, Zeke can’t let go—not until he finds a way to get even. However, his meddlesome father has other ideas. The new hire at the family-owned bagel store is somewhat colorful, but his dad is sure he’s the perfect man for Zeke.
Benny Ruggieri is a fiercely proud New Yorker who dreams of making it big as a costume designer in the theater. In the meantime, he’s working two part-time jobs in the food biz. When his new boss sets him up with his successful son, Benny has zero expectations. If nothing else, he figures he can entertain himself by making the uptight businessman squirm. Instead, the two become unlikely friends with an inexplicable attraction they can’t ignore. Benny might be the one to help Zeke set aside his quest for revenge, if he’s willing to let go and forgive what he can’t forget… and give in to an unexpected kind of romance.
We are here today to talk about A Kind of Romance. What can you tell us about it?
Hi there! Thank you for having me at Prism today! A Kind of Romance is book #2 in my new series A Kind of Stories. This is a good old-fashioned opposites-attract romance featuring a hardened Wall Street exec and an out and proud fashionista.
Please tell us more about our main characters.
Zeke Gulden is a complicated character. He’s a successful businessman from a close-knit family with a compulsion to come out on top at all cost. As a result, his personal relationships, especially with his father, have suffered.
Benny Ruggieri is an easy-going, out and proud gay man hoping to jump-start his career as a costume designer. Until his big opportunity comes, he’s working two jobs in the food biz. He’s self-confident but he doesn’t take himself too seriously. From his ever-changing hair color to his bright wardrobe and a penchant for eyeliner, he’s Zeke’s opposite in every way possible.
What do you want to tell those who may be new to the series?
A Kind of Stories series is set almost entirely in New York City. Those who’ve read A Kind of Truth may recognize Benny as Will’s best friend. He was too charming a character to ignore. Benny needed an HEA too! This is his and Zeke’s story. Also of note… all of my books are standalones! If you happen to read them out of order, you won’t be lost. J
What about A Kind of Romance makes you the proudest?
I’m most proud of the family interactions in A Kind of Romance. The relationship between Zeke and his father is complex and multi-layered. I think the readers will catch the nuances of family and hopefully appreciate the humor to offset the more serious aspects.
What is next for these characters? Is there more to this series? If so who will we hear from next?
There is definitely more to the series! A Kind of Honesty, book 3, will be out in Sept/Oct this year. The next one is Tim’s story. I’m currently working on book 4, which I think will be the final one installment in the series, but… you never know! J
If you could give one piece of advice to aspiring writers, what would it be?
Write every day and don’t give up!
What is the nicest thing a reader has said to you in a review, email, in person, or on social media?
Yesterday someone on Facebook told me the first kiss scene in A Kind of Romance was their favorite first kiss ever. Love that! But I also love hearing…“You’re an auto-buy”. Huge compliment!
What’s your favorite thing to wear?
Do you have a character in your head that you have yet to write a story for?
Yes, many! I typically have two or three storylines in my head at any given time. LOL
How do you choose names? If you decide to change a name, do you feel that it alters your perception of the character?
Names are so interesting to me. I like strong names for my MCs but honestly I don’t plot out them out ahead of time. Names come to me organically. My problem is I tend to choose names that begin with the same letter. It never occurs to me until an editor points out I have a lot of “J” or “M” names. J
What do you keep in your bedside table?
If you could be any Disney character who would you be, and why?
Belle. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite stories. The lesson of inner beauty versus outer is timeless. And let’s be honest… I want Belle’s library. J
What are you reading right now and what is next on your to-be-read list?
I’m currently reading Riley Hart’s Shifting Gears. Next up on my TBRs could be any of a hundred or more choices. LOL. My TBR overwhelms me! I have so many books to read, I need a couple months on a lounge chair under an umbrella to catch up! (Not a joke, btw). I think Ella Frank’s Finley will be next, though! J

About the Author
Lane Hayes is grateful to finally be doing what she loves best. Writing full time! It’s no secret Lane loves a good romance novel. An avid reader from an early age, she has always been drawn to a well-told love story with beautifully written characters. These days she prefers the leading roles both be men! Lane discovered the M/M genre a few years ago and was instantly hooked. Her first novel was a finalist in the 2013 Rainbow Awards and her third received an Honorable Mention in the 2014 Rainbow Awards. She loves travel, chocolate, and wine (in no particular order). Lane lives in Southern California with her amazing husband and the coolest yellow lab ever in an almost empty nest.
