Her Serene Highness Pommelina Alix Louise Canella of Monaco has lived her life as the “ugly duckling” of her glamorous family. But graduate school has kept her too busy to pine for a relationship, and being ignored by the media allows her to devote time to humanitarian projects without interference. Prima donna Formula One racer Thalia d’Angelis knows she’s been hired as a publicity stunt, but that only fuels her desire to be the first woman on an F1 podium. She might be on the verge of making history, but her behavior off the track is as risky as her driving.

The approaching Monaco Grand Prix—the crown jewel of the Formula One circuit—brings them together, but will these opposite and headstrong stars collide, or are they destined to cross?

My View:

I LOVED this book!!!!
Thalia is a frustrated race car driver who wants more than anything to be allowed into the world of Formula One Racing. After years of winning races, an argument on camera all but ruins her chances. Her Serene Highness Alix is the invisible Princess. She is the middle child who always does what is expected of her. She quietly graduated from med school and spent time working side by side with poor women in a remote African village. She has caused no scandals and has never defied her parents until she falls in love with the Princess of racing.

I read this book for my book club but I wasn’t expecting to like it much as I dislike car racing a great deal. WOW was I wrong!! I truly enjoyed it from the first sentence to the last. I liked all the details about racing. Ms Stark puts you in Thalia’s seat describing the sights, sounds and what happens to her body as she drives. Its rather fascinating. I totally fell in love with Alix. Again Ms Stark put us in her head so we could experience what she feels. She doesn’t live the life of your typical spoiled Princess. She is so human and just wants a normal life, free to be herself.
The story had a complete ending but it was the first book I’ve read in awhile that made me think about what happened after the ending. I love books that do that. I can not wait to read more books by this excellent writer!!
