When Jack Frost’s aunt dies and leaves him her house in the tiny town of Great Falls, Jack seizes the opportunity to escape the rat race of Chicago for the quaint village he loved as a child. On his first night he’s welcomed by a baseball bat and a trespassing warning from Nick St. James—longtime Great Falls resident and infamous curmudgeon.
Jack wants to give Nick the benefit of the doubt—he can’t deny his attraction to the big man—but after several run-ins with Nick’s grumpiness and closed-off heart, he’s ready to give up. Only after discovering the secret Nick’s been covering up for years does he vow to break through Nick’s walls to find the loving man hiding behind them.
This story was so cute! The town was adorable and the people in it were hilarious in that small town, gossipy, all in your business way that was tempered by their desire to bring out the best in the folks around them. In real life, I am sure it would be annoying. But for the purposes of this story, these folks were the most lovingly invasive folks and kept me smiling from start to finish.
I loved the concept of this story with Nick being so grumpy and grouchy and walled off from all emotional connections. Yet in secret, he was the most loving man in need of someone to love him as well. I will admit, I did not understand Jack’s use of the work love. I saw the fascination and the attraction and the promise of love, but actual love felt too rushed for me. HOWEVER, that was only a small issue that was easily forgiven in favor of the magical atmosphere and getting swept up in all that was Nick, because I fell for him a bit myself, even if it was simple infatuation over a man showing his softer side.
This story was short and sweet and so full of Christmas magic. Pick this one up if you are in the mood to be swept up in the holiday spirit.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
