One hit man.
One slave.
One death wish.

Sold by his parents and bred in a lab, Lexan Cesare is trained for one purpose—to execute his boss’s orders. In the mafia life, loyalty is everything. Emotions have no place and he never questions the rights or wrongs of the decisions that send him to terminate lives again and again.

Until one assignment draws emotions he’s never felt before and makes him question his true loyalties.

Enzo Mattia has been ripped apart from his family and everything he knows and sold into slavery. He swears to mete revenge on all who have wronged him.
First he has to escape from his new owner, Lexan, a man who captivates him and makes him want to act on impulses he’s suppressed for a long time. Impulses that can lead to death.

But the world is in flux and loyalties shift at the speed of a bullet. Betrayal abounds and falling in love is just a death wish.

This is a full length male/male romantic thriller set on a dystopian earth.

My View:

My god, Kai Tyler can write a compelling and action-packed tale. I loved Duce, the first book in the world’s end series, as well the teaser for this book which was published with the same title.

I don’t always enjoy Alternate Universe of Dystopian tales because the world-building, while necessary, can take over the story telling. Not so here. Tyler is able weave the required information about the world and keep the plot spinning in marvelous ways.

I wasn’t sure how Tyler could take the short tale from the original story and make it full-length but I shouldn’t have doubted her skills. The first one is like a single bite of ice cream and this one is a full-on chocolate Sunday with nuts and whip cream. She took that simple tale of a wealthy man purchasing a slave and turned into a full-length novel with twists and turns that had me so engrossed I was up way too late reading.

The assassin Lexan is a truly intriguing character and unlike any one I’ve seen before. He’s multi-layered and you can’t help but love him even though he is a killer-for-hire.

Likewise, Enzo is equally fascinating. He starts off as a simple farmer and ends up so much more. His life changes drastically but it all makes sense within the plot.

This story connects with the first book but you don’t have to have read one to understand the plot here. However, I do recommend reading both stories. Top notch writing here.
