Brett Malone has been working for Tampa Fire Department for over three years and the last thing he needs or wants is a rookie who can’t follow orders on a scene. He doesn’t need to be attracted to the rookie either, especially since his closet door at work is firmly welded shut.
All Evan Carmichael ever wanted to be was a fireman. He graduated top of his class at the Fire Academy, but nothing he learned there prepared him for the harsh reality of the job. Back to back shifts of one trauma call after another send him quickly to his breaking point.
Thankfully, support from his co-workers and the attention from the one fireman he thought hated him, helps him survive his first few brutal shifts. However, it’s attention of another sort that he may not survive at all.
This book contains M/M sexual situations and is intended for readers of legal age in the country in which they reside.
Spark and Blaze sees us back in Tampa with Brenda’s crazy firemen and this time it’s the turn of the experienced Brett Malone and the new rookie Evan Carmichael. This pair do not hit it off straight away!
Brett still pretty much hides his sexuality from everyone especially at work. Even though Flame came out last year when he got together with Tigger and the firehouse supports him Brett is still scared of people’s reactions. He doesn’t spend a lot of time socialising with the other guys preferring to play pool at Bradleys where he can hook up for fast and dirty sex.
Evan is the rookie in all ways and his enthusiasm for what he sees is the right way gets him into bother with the rest of the team almost immediately. You would think reporting Brett to the Captain would see him in hot water with the rest of the team but then they have the shift from hell, everyone is traumatised but Evan is faced with the reality of his job for the first time and needs the teams support to get through. Ultimately this brings Brett and Evan into close contact and it all goes to hell for the man in the closet and the man who has everyone thinking he is straight!
As always when Brenda brings two men together it’s hot! If you are a fan of the Mad Dog series, my favourite by this author, you will see the crossover of the stories when Shadows burns down. The authors stories are starting to intertwine and I wonder whether all these men will eventually meet up or cross paths – that would definitely be a little bit crazy!
This is another hit for me from this author. My only criticism is that it would have benefited from a further proofread. I am already looking forward to the next one to see where she will take these boys and whether it will involve a group of Dogs and the odd vampire.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
