Horses were his passion, until he laid eyes on his boss.
Eighteen months ago, tragedy struck Bywater Farm when a riding accident killed Clay Hunter’s lover and traumatized his prize horse, King of Hearts. Clay and King lingered in limbo, surviving but not really living, until a breath of fresh air in the form of Luke Davis, a new groom in the stud barn, revives them both.
When a fall from King’s back sends Luke to the emergency room, Clay watches the shaky foundation of their budding relationship tumble down. Can Clay really love a jockey again, or will his fear of losing another man he loves keep them apart for good?
I liked this story. It was that great mix of innocent heat that I remember from those old Harlequin romance novels. There was just enough sensuality to know these men were compatible, but the story and the character healing stole the show.
Clay and Luke were perfect compliments for each other. Luke was the optimistic virgin while Clay was hardened and full of grief. It took Luke’s innocence and idealism to break through Clay’s walls and show Clay that he deserved love again. Yet Luke was strong and worldly enough not to let Clay walk all over him. Clay was mature enough to guide Luke but not so old that it felt like a father figure story. Clay needed Luke and Luke needed to be needed by Clay.
For me, it worked. I had a great time listening to this story and was left happy and satisfied.
John Solo did a good job on this one. His voice was appropriate for this story and he easily brought out the emotion and the characters. He brought out the best parts and I enjoyed my listening experience.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the audiobook of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
