When Robby starts his senior year in high school, he meets the new boy, Andy. Although Robby has never been physically attracted to anyone, he instinctively feels comfortable around Andy. As they get to know each other better, Robby realizes Andy is an outsider just like him, and harassment at the hands of the school’s bad boys makes it clear that Andy is a transboy.

When Robby’s eccentric Aunt Ivy finds some of her sentimental treasures missing, the boys put on their sleuthing hats to solve the mystery.

My View:

This book didn’t work for me but I think it came down to the author’s writing style. It’s not bad I just didn’t love it and thus had a hard time finishing the book. I had to push myself to keep reading.

I liked having the main character teens who fell out outside the normal gay-bi spectrum. And the education about Andy’s transgenderism was good. I liked that Andy was absolutely certain about being a boy and that there was no waffling. Robby’s struggle with his sexuality was also dealt with fairly well. Though the fact that he didn’t use the internet to find answers to his question seemed odd. For the most part the teenagers seemed realistic but there was dialogue and action that didn’t ring true.

Andy and Robby were both interesting characters—as was the supporting cast—however I never felt their chemistry and their proclamations of love fell flat. I also didn’t like the mystery of Aunt Ivy’s missing things. That part definitely could’ve been left out.

I still urge readers to check out the book because I am sure many people will like it more than I did.
