Prism Book Alliance® would like to thank CL Etta for stopping by today on the 2016 GRL Author Spotlight Tour. Please give them a warm welcome.
Books, Tequila and Boys
Hi everyone. First I want to thank the fun folks at Prism Alliance for hosting me today. A few words about me, then I’ll move on to pimping my new release, Heartache and Hope.
I’m a firm believer that sixty is the new forty, while silver is the new blonde, which explains why us baby-boomers are having more fun. After trying for years to get into shape, I resignedly succumbed to the realization that round is a shape. Lastly I love books and tequila. How can I not? So that’s me—a round, silver-haired, romance-novel-junkie who swears tequila is a food group.
Participating in my first GRL is exciting. I’m looking forward to meeting many of my favorite authors. However, attending as a first-time, published author makes me nervous. So, if you spot a small, silver-haired, round woman, holding a margarita and wandering around the Westin Hotel, stop me and introduce yourself. I promise I won’t bite.
Now let’s meet my boys from Heartache and Hope.
Title: Heartache and Hope
Author: CL Etta
Publisher: Pride Publishing
Cover Artist: Emmy Ellis
Release Date: 07/19/2016
After heartache comes hope…
At eighteen, Kevin Monroe has learned that mothers don’t always love their sons, Dad’s fists can break your bones and a closet gets mighty crowded with two. After the boy next door breaks his trust and his heart, Kevin departs Albuquerque, New Mexico, determined to live his life out and proud as the man he is meant to be. With Diamondback tickets in his pocket, Kevin leaves his heartache behind to pursue his long-time hope of entertaining as a drag queen.
Fear has ruled Raphael Delgado since he first realized he was gay—fear of discovery, fear that he can’t support his disabled mama and fear that he has lost Kevin forever. Against a backdrop of familial love and obligation, Raphael struggles to find the courage to accept his sexuality, while hoping to leave the fragile confines of his closeted life.
While watching a Diamondback game on television, Raphael spots Kevin kissing a man in the crowd. His first reaction is fear for Kevin’s safety and his second, fear that Kevin will never come home.
Can love be restored long distance? Will love’s key be strong enough to unlock Raphael’s closet door? And who is the red-haired beauty wrapped in Kevin’s arms?
My happy hooker’s eyes widen as recognition finally sinks in. She, or rather he, is apparently at a loss for words. Just then I hear his stomach growling in the silence of the street. Using my very best deductive powers because I am, after all, a recent graduate from a prestigious high school, I ask, “Are you hungry?”
He looks at me and nods shyly as he utters, “Yeah, I haven’t eaten since yesterday. That’s why I was offering to blow you so I could get something to hold me over for the night. I was rolled this morning for the seven dollars and thirty-eight cents I had in my pocket. I’m really getting desperate. How about it, do a guy a favor? I’m really good—for a twenty-dollar blow job.”
“You know, alley sex isn’t really my thing. But if you want, you can come to my place and I’ll fix us both something to eat. How does that sound?”
“Sounds tempting, but how do I know you won’t hurt me?”
“Oh yeah, now you’re worried about me hurting you? Five minutes ago you wanted to take me into a dark alley. What would have kept me from hurting you then? Think about it.”
He stares at me like one of those big-eyed waifs in a painting my mom had hanging in our ratty old living room when I was growing up. His eyes are as big as saucers, glistening with tears, soulful and begging to be loved. Damn, he breaks my heart standing here in his crooked Cleopatra wig and too-tight dress.
