This month, I released my very first audiobook.
For more than a year now, readers have reached out to me, asking – “Are you ever releasing your series in audiobook?”
The thought of an audiobook scared me a little. It’s a market I’m not familiar with, a process I don’t know, and essentially, it’s something that requires me to hand off my work to a narrator’s interpretation. Which is especially difficult when I can actually “hear” the characters talk to me as I write their story. So I know the tone of their voice and the sound of their laughter.
Anyone who knows me, knows I’m a control freak to the extreme. So handing over a project meant I had to go with someone I trusted to narrate one of my stories. I met with Greg Tremblay several months ago. He’s a seasoned professional and the narrator who immediately came to mind when I thought about venturing into this new market. We had lunch and he patiently answered my bazillion questions regarding the process.
Next came the big question – which story do I release first?
I guess most authors would have started with the first book in The Men of Halfway House series (A Better Man). But, yeah, I don’t do things like normal people do. LOL So I jumped in with Cole’s book, A Restored Man…the third book in the series.
Why? Well, each story can be read as a stand-alone, and that particular title truly stands on its own. Also, Cole is probably the most animated and pushy character in the series. And he demanded the attention. It’s odd really. You know how some kids ask “Are we there yet?” repeatedly? Well, Cole kept asking me, “Have you picked me yet?” He’s pushy that way. 🙂 And one of the reasons I love him so much. So, it was a logical choice for him to go first. I figured if anyone can jump to life in audio, it’s Cole.
Then it was up to Greg to try to capture Cole’s personality and quirkiness. Personally, I think he did an amazing job and “hearing” Cole makes me smile. Every time.
What comes next?
Will I release more in audio? That’s a good question, but I don’t really have an answer for that yet because it depends on how receptive readers are to the series in this format and which book they’d want to ‘hear’ next. I tend to think (sometimes overthink) things through a bit. But I am learning something new each day about this new (to me) market.
In the meantime, I hope you enjoy spending time with Cole (and Greg) as much as I do. <3

Cole Renzo thinks his greatest challenge is to behave for the remainder of his term at Halfway House. Until he meets his new boss, Ty Calloway, a man who ticks off every box on Cole’s list of interests.
A sought-after restorer and customizer of exotic and collectible cars, Ty had enough confidence to command what he wanted in life, until one fateful night changed everything. Almost two years later, he’s slowly rebuilding his life with great control. He’s defied the odds and works tirelessly to be the man he once was – but he still feels broken.
Cole’s candor and unfiltered personality awaken Ty’s barely-remembered desire to greet each new day with a smile, while Ty’s unwavering acceptance of Cole’s quirks and brash humor makes Cole feel as if he fits in for the first time in far too long. When a nemesis threatens Ty’s personal restoration and the things he holds dear, Cole is determined to protect their relationship, even if that means sacrificing everything he’s worked so hard to achieve.
But Ty will have to let his guard down, surrender control, and admit he needs Cole first, even if that puts him at risk of breaking beyond repair.
