Prism would like offer a warm welcome to BA Tortuga
What is your partner’s name?
What is your partner’s role in the genre?
Miss J and I started the first m/m romance publishing company years ago, and now Julia writes the hottest paranormals ever. pants
What did you first think of their involvement in the genre?
The first m/m romance BA ever put out, I edited, the relationship survived it. I will say it was based on a story I told her from before we were a couple. So her first m/m book is a love story to me.
What do you think of their involvement now?
I’m so proud of her. She’s a best-selling author with all these books, all these worlds, and she’s really evolved as a writer.
Do the people in your life know about your partner’s involvement in the genre? If so, what do they think of it?
We have no secrets. The big thing is that her daddy wants her to write a western.
What advice do you have for partners new to the genre/new to the authordom?
Respect the writing time or you’ll end up dead in a ditch (at least in a book).
Brag about your partner, what are you most proud of them accomplishing in this difficult industry?
I’m proud of her for everything, but today I’m proud that she has a mass-market deal in WH Smith stores in the UK.
What is your favorite part of their involvement in the LGBT genre?
That we get to work together and we have for a long, long time.
What has their involvement in the genre brought to your life?
It brought us each other.
Has their involvement inspired your actions and/or changed your views?
BA has taught me to be political. She’s a fierce advocate and she never lets me sit on the sidelines.
Have you attended any genre-oriented events (Pride, GRL, book signings, etc) with your partner? If so, what did you think of them as an “outsider”?
What’s one thing you do to help support them when they’re in a rut or feeling down about their work?
Throat punch her, metaphorically. Alternative, yarn store therapy is magical.
