Saving Iain means finding a small bit of redemption but what Ash gets instead is so much more.

Ashley Wilkins has done some bad things, torturing people until they give him the information he wants, but all that was in his past. Making amends for all those wrong doings will never happen. He knows that, but that doesn’t stop him from trying, which is why he takes a break from interrogation to save Iain Liron’s life. Iain is a recovering drug addict who understands all too well what finding forgiveness means. Can he make Ash see that he’s more than just his past sins?

My View:

Ashley is the fifth installment of the Demon Elite series. In this book we get a bit more forward movement in the series bad guy ARC and another instant and unexplained romance.

I like this series concept. I like the couples, especially in this one where we got to see friendship bonds and camaraderie outside of the assassin work situations. Their jokes about domesticity were great and I enjoyed seeing the changes that love had brought these men. I love the way the author easily sets things up for the series to continue. I am eager for Germ’s story!

I am glad the author gave me more as far as the bad guy was concerned. I was getting a bit frustrated waiting for things to move forward. I still wish things would move along faster but I am hooked and want more.

But I am disappointed in the romance in this series and in this story in particular. This romance was love at first sight and was obviously out of character for the men. But the author never followed up with why it was out of character and why love changed them. She also ignored Iain’s healing and addictions completely and that really upset me. You can’t just magically make everything OK by using past therapy as the magic wand. The author did touch on Ashley’s past and had him do some healing, but not enough to make me understand the romance and instant love connection.

I will continue reading this series but I do hope the author gives us more soon.
