Say Hi at GRL!

Thanks so much to the team at Prism for hosting me today!

Are we all looking forward to GRL? I’m not sure I have the words to tell everyone how much I am. This will be my third GRL, and the first one where I’m actually organised enough to try and sell some books. I’m not bring too many—thanks, luggage allowances—but I’ll definitely have a few on hand.

And swag! I’m so excited by how my swag turned out. So make sure you come and see me in the Author Lounge to grab some!

But mostly I’m looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones. Well, as much as an introvert like myself can make new friends. I mean, I love you all, seriously, but I’ll probably have to hide behind a curtain to work up the courage to admit that. But if you see me, please come and say hello, and we can talk about the books we love together.

In my non-internet life, I think I’m about the only person I know who reads m/m romance let alone writes it. So it’s fantastic to actually share a space with hundreds of people who also love m/m romance. Give me all your recommendations, please!

GRL is a long trip for me all the way from Australia – I think it works out to about 20 hours on a plane, and quite a few spent in airports on the way. Really, by the time I get off a long-haul international flight I’m generally at the point where I have stopped functioning as a human being. I very much rely on the competency of border officials to point me in the right direction, and basically just hope to arrive there with the same number of bags I started out with.

This will be my third trip to the US in three years. I still haven’t figure out how your money works—IT ALL LOOKS THE SAME—and I need a tip-buddy with me at all times to make sure I’m doing it right, but I love it there. And I love seeing parts of the US that I otherwise might not have. Kansas City? Apologies to anyone from there, but it was never on my top ten list of US cities to visit. And that’s great. Because now I get to go somewhere unexpected, where everything will be a surprise.

So if you’re going to GRL this year, please come and see me. Introduce yourself, and don’t be shy. We’re all there to have fun, and talk about the books we love to read.

And you know? In three years of GRLs and travelling to the US, I’ve still never been to a Taco Bell. Probably gonna have to fix that this time.

About the Author

Lisa likes to tell stories, mostly with hot guys and happily ever afters.

Lisa lives in tropical North Queensland, Australia. She doesn’t know why, because she hates the heat, but she suspects she’s too lazy to move. She spends half her time slaving away as a government minion, and the other half plotting her escape.

She attended university at sixteen, not because she was a child prodigy or anything, but because of a mix-up between international school systems early in life. She studied History and English, neither of them very thoroughly.

She shares her house with too many cats, a green tree frog that swims in the toilet, and as many possums as can break in every night. This is not how she imagined life as a grown-up.

  1. I love your comment about the difference with money. One of the worst moments in my recent trip to Sydney was when I handed some money to a cashier and she told me, that’s not enough. I’m just not prepared for coins to be dollars.

    • I am terrible with American money! I just end up with so many coins left over because I get paranoid I’m taking too long if I’m standing in a line counting them out.

      • Honestly that probably happens to most. Some people are conscientious about using them up over time. Some bring them to the bank. And then some bring them in big bags to the store. If you haven’t seen this before, there’s a great clip of Ellen taking the First Lady to CVS where they use one of them. 🙂

  2. Oooo, I love Taco Bell! I will have my car at GRL so maybe we can take a field trip. I will definitely introduce myself and say hi to my favorite “Daddy” kink author! I can’t wait to meet you. Safe travels!

  3. Taco Bell tastes tasty but it’s not so healthy but on the plus side it’s really cheap. I’ve never traveled out of country but I’m pretty sure I would probably have problems with money too.
