After being dumped by his long-term boyfriend for being overweight, Henry Beckett decides to make some drastic changes. In a vain attempt at getting his boyfriend back, Henry does the most absurdly frightening thing he can think of.

He joins a gym.

Reed Henske is a personal trainer who isn’t sure he’ll ever be ready to date again. He’s sick of guys who are only interested in the perfect body image, never seeing him for who he really is.

As Reed tortures Henry with things like diet and exercise, Henry enamours Reed with recipes and laughter. As the friendship lines start to blur, Henry is convinced there’s no way Thor-like Reed could ever be interested in a guy like him.

Reed just has to convince Henry that life isn’t about reaching your ideal bodyweight. It’s about finding your perfect counterweight.

My View:

Sometimes I get lucky and I read just the right book for the mood I am in and it leaves me feeling quite satisfied. I was in need of a comforting read and I found it in this story. I have not read many books by this author, and it was a pleasant surprise how much I enjoyed this one. The two men, Henry and Reed, are perfect for each other despite their surface differences. I have had some friends tell me that saying a book is sweet, adorable or cute is not necessarily a flattering description, but it fits here, and I mean that in the most complimentary way.  The plot may be a bit predictable, but I think that is part of where I get comfort from in a comforting read.

Henry started off the story very heartbroken and feeling rather dejected. His self-worth was destroyed, and his ex had told him that he was fat. Joining a gym and transforming his body through some healthy choices and hard work empowered him, but hiring Reed and learning to love himself gave him a new lease on life. It was fun to go on that journey with him. I was inspired by his dedication, and I enjoyed the romance between the two contrasting partners.

This story left me feeling lighter and more contented than when I started it…total comfort read.
