Charles Hunter’s team is on a mission to extract an unidentified ATF agent from an undercover job gone wrong. All they’ve got to go on is the rendezvous location—until Charles recognizes the ex he hasn’t seen in years. Their “simple rescue mission” is about to get a lot more complicated.
For Ángel Medina, adjusting to life after his cartel nightmare is hard enough without confronting memories of a failed relationship. All he wants is a fresh start. But when a violent stalker lashes out from the shadows, Ángel realizes his nightmare is far from over.
As the stalker’s obsession escalates and bodies start dropping, Charles and Ángel are thrown together in a desperate search for the culprit. Tempers flare and old passions reignite, drawing them back into the same turbulent relationship that once ended in disaster.
But the stalker isn’t letting go—and the next strike might hit straight through the heart.
This was a really good thriller/mystery definitely not a romance. I had kind of guessed who the bad guy was quite early on but it didn’t detract from the story at all. The story itself is fast paced, hooked me in from the start and I really enjoyed it.
Charles and Angel were lovers once upon a time but it didn’t end well. They had an open relationship, Charles was in the closet at work and neither of them were very honest about how they really felt. The end of their relationship was the start of an undercover mission for Angel that leads them to where we meet them in the present day which is Charles and his team extracting Angel from a life or death situation. Charles didn’t know who he was rescuing until his eyes landed on Angel and everything from that final day comes rushing back.
Although the recovery is a success someone out there wants Angel and it’s soon obvious he has a stalker that has no problem killing anyone that gets in their way. Whilst Charles is doing his best, alongside his team, to protect Angel he can’t help the anger and hurt that he feels from their past -however this doesn’t stop them falling into bed with each other often and regretting it every single time. There is a lot of destructive and repetitive behaviour between this pair and a lot of angry sex.
It takes them until the end to sort themselves out but it’s a hell of a ride getting there. This is a gritty tale from Cordelia Kingsbridge and one I really liked – I hope you do too.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
