Don’t Let Hate Win ~ OpEd by Brandilyn

Don’t Let Hate Win

Yes we as a nation (not me personally, but that is neither here nor there at this point) voted for hate and ignorance. More importantly we voted out of fear. Fear of the unknown, fear of change, fear of what we don’t understand.
The only way to change fear is education. It is opening people’s eyes and making them realize their mistake. It is making them understand the different isn’t bad. It is making sure that in 4 years, we are ready to take back the country for progress.
I spent last night trying to figure out what to tell my kids about the elections. I will tell them this: Fear, hate, and ignorance won today. That just means we have more work to do. We have to be good and show through our actions how much better acceptance, love, and education can be.
We have to continue fighting for those who can’t and those who just want to live their lives with common civil rights, common decency. We have to continue to do what we are doing.  If you give up.  If you wallow in your own fear, you have let the haters win.  We can’t do that.
Our kids need a country they can be proud of.  The PEOPLE are what make me proud.  59 Million people voted for hate, fear, and ignorance.   59 Million people voted for compassion and progress.  For human decency.

  1. Thank you for this, Brandilyn. I think I am in shock…we weren’t sure what to tell our kids either. My son was in tears this morning. We told them something pretty close to what you wrote.
